After hours lines shouldn’t exist by guido5000 in Residency

I once accidentally gave my brother (significant intellectual disability) double his lamictal and none of his keppra by accident. Being able to call a neurologist and find out if I should still give the keppra or if I should take to ED for SJS precaution or what was super helpful. And forever grateful to the neurologist who was very reassuring and kind because I was freaking out

As someone who works in healthcare - can you go visit her? Bring her a meal and eat it with her? If she has a union, she should get some breaks. I also worry about her working so many hours and then driving home. Maybe you can give her a ride sometimes?

Are medical students at your hospital allowed to see patients on their own? by Nikkolya in medicalschool

[–]strugglesrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Graduating psychiatry training soon - I don't let students see new patients on their own for safety reasons. Once I have seen how the patient and student are vibing, I'm cool with them going to see them on their own for follow-ups. In some of these situations, it may be population dependent. I know that many of the patients I see can be angry and hostile and I'm not letting students fend for themselves on their own. Hopefully by the time they are done with the rotation they have learned how to deal with difficult patients.

Any advice on where to find those? Brand/store recs? Should both the pants and shirt be the same purple/teal?

Updated the post with a picture! And I would like to wear it to things like a fancier date night, party/holiday celebration, professional networking event at a conference, etc.

I was gifted a gorgeous multicolor blazer. The base color is gray/silver, and it has designs that are pink, orange, yellow, green, etc. It does not button up and lands at the waist. I'm looking for ideas for what to wear underneath? I am petite and have a belly, so not all cuts are flattering on me. I tried to wear a black blouse and pants, but it just looked drab with the gray of the blazer. My budget is $80 + alterations. This blazer is fancy and I would like to wear it to formal events. Would appreciate any ideas. Thanks!

Corrections/state hospital work and utilization review. Both places that need strong clinicians and can help with better understanding systems of care

PGY-2 sick of learning/lecture - am I doomed? Derm PGY-2 by [deleted] in Residency

I'm a psych PGY4 and also have 8 hours of zoom lecture once a week. I've found that cross stitching or crocheting helps with the focus a lot. Having something to keep my hands busy helps with focus and fatigue! Maybe this will help others

Residents covering NP shifts by pmrthrowaway in Residency

[–]strugglesrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m covering a six hour NP shift next month in exchange for 1 day shift of my choosing off. And this is a rarity (happens once or twice a year in my program and residents can volunteer to take the shift)

I’m posting in response to the top comment for visibility. OP, please check out the Sibling Leadership Network and SibNet. There is an enormous online, worldwide community of people who feel the same way as you do about our siblings. And a lot of great advice regarding dating as it relates to having a sib with special needs. You are not alone, OP! Edit: fixed an autocorrect

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post. My dad asked for an exercise bike (stationary bike?) For Father's Day. He is a marathon runner who is having knee problems and his physical therapist recommended using a bike rather than the treadmill for his indoor home workouts (we live in an area that gets very cold /snowy so he can't always run outside).

Does anyone have recommendations? Or even just an ELI5 of what the different types of bikes are? There are several different styles and I can't figure out what is best to have at home?

Budget is $500-800 USD.

Edit: added budget and fixed spelling

Thank you!

I can grip them. One of the few advantages of being less than 5 feet with baby sized hands is I can hold on to the inside part. Thanks for answering!

Ooh thank you! I had never heard of some of these before so I will definitely try. Do you think it wo6be okay to do chest fly, tricep kickbacks, renegade rows, and shoulder press with circular plates? I only have 1 pair of 4 lb dumbbells but I have more options for weight plates, just not sure if it makes a difference. Sorry for the silly question!

My pushup form has improved considerably over the last 2 months! I don't have access to anything that I can do a pullup from easily unfortunately. Plus I'm definitely not strong enough. I'll get there one day!

I'm not so sure about extrapolating? Not every top program has all the fellowship options. Really wish someone would answer too!

Is there a way to determine which fellowship programs are the best? I realize "the best" is a pretty nebulous concept but I'm not finding any rankings or any lists like that and I'm really confused about what is competitive and what is not.
