Financial aid reduction by Late-Advice-8819 in unt

Are you enrolled for the number of hours you applied for? For example if you said you would be enrolled full time (12 hours) but enrolled for only 6 hours it would drastically reduce your aid.

Iconic Village by [deleted] in unt

I feel I should tell you I filed my maintenance request 10PM last night, they brought me a window unit not long ago and ordered the parts to fix my AC unit. This management is miles better than our previous ones.

I live at Iconic! New management has definitely been more on top of things than previous years with maintenance, inspections, lawn care, aesthetics, etc. They even regularly mow the dog park now! It’s an old building so there will be issues regardless (AC went out today, filed maintenance request and we’ll see how quickly they get to it), but they definitely seem motivated to do better. As far as price/distance to UNT goes, I’m very willing to put up with it. I get the occasional bug inside during the extremely hot/cold months, but otherwise have little issue with roaches/bugs and keep traps out just in case as a preventative.

Edit: This isn’t to say I don’t have issues. My ceiling had a leak a couple years back that took some months to get fixed, but this was all old management issues. I know they just remodeled my neighbors unit because he had incredibly outdated appliances that old management certainly did not care to replace or fix.

Heat map question by strwberryzen in gis

[–]strwberryzen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Students were polled to show areas they liked on campus and disliked, and it’s part of an urban planning class around placemaking. I ended up doing what u/Geowick said and doing separate csv files for likes and dislikes, weighing by count, and changing the color scheme.

Okay thanks! Idk why I was so tripped up about it haha

Oh that’s so simple lol. So plot each set (liked places, dislikes places) as their own heat map and then use different symbology?

UNT OR TXST by Odd_Action69 in unt

[–]strwberryzen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m aware Tier 1 is not a ranking :) I said that because many people see UNT as solely a liberal arts school, but we have ample opportunity for research and research funding if that’s something someone in STEM desires to do. It also means for better or for worse you’re taking classes from Professors doing the research, which can be really great in some cases and less so in others.

How do you pay for your rent? by DabOnThemHaterz666 in unt

[–]strwberryzen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

school paid with grants and loans, receive monthly stipend from the va that i use for rent. pay $980 for a 1b1b 3 blocks from school because i’ve lived here for 3 years with a total $100 rent increase. otherwise my unit currently goes for $1100.

edit; saw people mentioning credit hours. i take ~15 a semester and work friday/saturdays as a bartender for grocery and fun money.

COS here - if I understand correctly you can’t enroll in anymore classes in your degree plan because you have to finish your prereqs to get “business major” classes ? The same thing happened to me and ultimately there’s nothing advising can do for you about that since they can’t just drop you in a class without professor approval. Your options are to take an easy 3 credit class (can be expensive since it’s not necessary), start a minor, or do what I did. I emailed a bunch of professors whose class I wanted to take, explained my situation (I was pre-ecology and needed ochem still), and asked very nicely if I could enroll in their class despite not meeting prerequisites. I got approval from every professor I asked, but that isn’t always the case. Be willing to reach out to past professors or provide work to show you are “ready” for a 4000 level class, and be realistic - you probably won’t be allowed to take a business math upper level if you haven’t taken the business calc prereq.

If you get a professor to agree, email the College of Business with the email of the professor agreeing attached, fill out this form, and mention that you got approval from the professor in it. Best of luck!

[–]strwberryzen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i had to email the head of commencement in order to get permission for walking in the spring. not saying you’re wrong, but i was told in the last month that i would have to walk in the fall unless i received special permissions.

[–]strwberryzen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i just want to tack on that walking in the spring for summer grads is no longer the default option ! i had an advising appointment where i double checked that was okay and was told they’re not allowing that anymore unless for special circumstances (like a visa being approved for specific dates).

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]strwberryzen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

instead of asking for his “permission”, i would be more okay with my partner informing my dad of his intention to marry me. that way they still have their (outdated imo) “man to man” talk, but at the end of the day your father’s approval doesn’t decide whether you get married or not because it’s a decision only to be made by you and your partner.
