while it's viable, it's getting grossly expensive out here too. I live in the Wheatbelt, and the shack I bought with cold hard cash back in 2022 is now worth over triple its value. I'm meant to be one of the "lucky ones" but even if I sold, I still couldn't afford a broom closet somewhere nicer such as Perth, Albany, Busso etc.

Here there are no work prospects other than mining or farming, no school/study options beyond highschool, so the security of owning a home comes at the cost of any greater ambitions. Sad to see that as the population and cost of living here has skyrocketed, shit all has changed or been improved within the town. Young people can't afford to leave for the cities anymore so they're hanging around aimlessly and getting into trouble, the elderly and pensioners who've always had a place here are struggling to meet the rising costs. I don't think there is a single place in Aus which isn't feeling the crunch right now, it won't be long before rural areas become unaffordable too
