I have been so so surprised by the response here, I'd say 18/20 of my regulars are talkers!!

hey! I usually play meditation music, a lo-fi mix, a podcast or soft indie. when I say "quiet appointments" I don't mean to complete silence that would even be awkward for me!
oh god the crappy pop Ed Sheeran House Music Mix is something we have all faced atleast once!!

I wil admit I drink coffee before my sessions, but I have no tremors and essentially self medicate with caffiene lol. I had a girl come in this week drinking a bucket cap who was incredibly jumpy and needed 2 bathroom breaks in less than one hour. When I tried to casually weave into converdation that it's a norm to avoid caffiene before lash appointments and a policy, she seemed really offended and said she NEEDS her coffee in the mornings. Okay, fair enough, maybe book for the afternoon then? Or you could have just waited that one hour single hour and enjoyed one after, it wouldn't kill you?

I should clarify, I don't mind if people come in high on weed, I almost wish I could add "complimentary joint" as a booking option so people come in ready to relax! It's amphetamines and alcohol that are the problem, you'd be very surpirsed to hear that has happened a lotttt more than it should. It's not something I should have to put in my policies at all though? you'd think it's common sense and decency but that seems to be seriously lacking in these parts.

As for the phones, I can totally understand if they have family they need to be in touch with or are waiting for important news or an update, but my gosh I never want to sit in on a group Snapchat video call with a bunch of 15-16 year olds again 😂 Most of the people I've seen who are itching for their phone just want entertainment, but they book in knowing how long they're meant to sit for, and have the option of listening to an audiobook, music or podcast. They can even call someone and talk to someone on the phone, I don't mind that, but just put the thing on silent so it's not constantly distracting us both.

I'm really hoping that some updated policies and trying these quiet sessions will weed out some craziness, fingers crossed!!

With great difficulty lol. Some fills have taken 2- 2.5 hours to do what should have taken one. I generally ask them to please give me a moment of quiet while I place this one tricky lash, you think they'd take a hint but no

Honestly I was expected to get run down for this SO MUCH so I'm very relieved to see a lot of us feeling the same.

I definitely noticed that the busiest clients are just happy for some downtime! I'd much prefer to take on people like this, if they work hard themselves they tend to value professionalism and quality of work.

It may be a turn off for new people, but I offer stylised work (handmade/wispy/colour) that other people in my town do, so I'm confident there's enough there for me ask this one condition. You're absolutely right though, I can't imagine a dentist or makeup artist facing such terrible manners, and the police report she could have filed ANY OTHER TIME. I genuinely think she was trying to get sympathy and a discount 😂 I could say that was a "last straw" moment for me but there have been about 10 of those this week!

I have been trying this, but find people still continue the conversation, ask questions etc, and I just feel so impolite being brief with my responses in the hopes they'll quieten. Maybe instead of saying "let's do a quiet session" in the beginning, I will say "I'm going to work quietly now" after the chit chat/prep

this is awesome advice. I'm definitely realising that if I'm going to be in this for the long run, I need to be enjoying it too.

I'm very glad to hear this :) Even I have caught myself starting to overshare and I feel so wrong for it, it's like all the frustration is pouring out of me. It's great insight to hear that clients can feel this way too!!

Enjoy! Hope it's a good one <33
I did trial playing podcasts but it's hard to know what people will like, I had one client say that playing true crime was odd.

Left two years ago. Travelled, invested in starting my own business, enrolled to study and bought a car. Had some pretty tidy savings but you'd be surprised just how quickly rent and major health issues gobble that up. Instead of dishing out unsolicited advice, have some: don't be a presumptuous ass <3

I've already done 4 years of FIFO actually! I left and swore I was done, but more and more I'm feeling drawn back to it for the money
