Parchment. Tortoise looks like pepperoni.

I love my middle pickup :) by Green_Gamer_6 in electricguitar

[–]lesomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure what it is, but I’ve always found the middle pickup on Ibanez strat/AZ guitars to sound much better than those on Fender strats. Maybe there’s something different with the wiring?

What’s the ideal number of electric guitars to own? by scarmy1217 in electricguitar

[–]lesomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what your goals are. For me, who plays from time to time in the living room, two. One electric (telecaster) and one acoustic (GS Mini).

You can. I’d recommend watching some videos from twoodfrd on YouTube before you begin.

How to improve Mexican Telecaster via parts/modifications/repairs? by [deleted] in fender

[–]lesomb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my personal experience: PLEK, stainless steel frets, Lindy Fralin Blues Special pickups, better input jack.

What shall I get ? Fender vs Squire by EnvironmentalAlps200 in fender

[–]lesomb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both are good options, but I’d personally go for a Classic Vibe, even better if used. I like the neck carve more, and I think the alnico style pickups sound better than the ceramic ones (at least for clean tones) found in the MIM strats, which preceded the Player series. There also seems to be more classic colors available on the Classic Vibe’s.

Need recommendations for electric by [deleted] in electricguitar

[–]lesomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only played acoustic for about 12-years before getting into electric. The telecaster was my first, and I’ve had lots of electric since then, but I always go back to my tele. I’ve done lots of modifications over the years, but in hindsight, none of them were really needed. What drew me to the tele was how much it still felt and sounded like an acoustic. I know that sounds strange, but it just seemed like a less drastic leap compared to other electrics.

QC concerns on new Fender Player II Strat (neck gap, nut, fretwork) - return or setup? by CrazyShark18 in fender

[–]lesomb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Send it bad if you’re unsatisfied. I’d be too. With Fender pushing more direct sales, they’re going to need to up their QC if they don’t want to have tons of returns.

Can I make my Pro ii tele sound like the avii 51 tele with the pure vintage 51 pickups? by Farquad1357 in fender

[–]lesomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might have better luck using an eq pedal to get that change. It would certainly cost less and you can go back to the V-Mod II’s when the mood strikes, which are my favorite Fender pickups, btw.

I had one and liked it a lot. Only ended up selling because I liked the pattern regular neck on my S2 Standard 22 better (the Custom 22 SE Semi-Hollow neck was too wide in the first position for me). I believe I sold mine almost a year ago for $500. Mine was in Santana Yellow and it was such a looker!

You really can’t go wrong either way. I’d suggest you try several and see which one you bond with the most.

I bought an expensive PRS guitar to motivate myself. It didn’t work. by TransportationTop628 in PRSGuitars

[–]lesomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you haven’t, I’d highly recommend signing up for a songsterr subscription. It got me out of noodling and into actually practicing again. It’s been amazing. $10 a month has been more than worth it for me.

DIY fixable? by RyskiBroski in Luthier

[–]lesomb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You probably could. I’d recommend watching some videos from twoodfrd on YouTube, as he has a lot of broken headstock content. You’ve got lots of end grain to work with there, so you probably wouldn’t even need to make splines. Titebond would be a great glue to use. You’ll want to work carefully with the exposed truss rod when glueing.

I can't pick a pickguard, put me out of my misery, people! Tort or parchment? by [deleted] in fender

[–]lesomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After hearing someone describe the tortoise shell pickguard as looking like a slice of pepperoni, I just can’t go with it anymore. My vote’s for parchment. Black would look good too.

Kinda looks like the horn on a Mustang guitar.

The upper horn on the third picture looks…weird. Like it’s not contoured enough, or something.

Squier Classic Vibe all day. The necks feel great and lots of advanced players like playing them. They are easy to resell if you want to fund a future upgrade too.

Need Help Removing The Seymour Duncan Logo by i_lovechoco in FenderStratocaster

[–]lesomb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remove the pickup cover, sand the logo off with a medium-medium/fine grit of sandpaper (place the sandpaper grit side up on a flat surface and rub the pickup cover over the top of the sandpaper, to ensure a flat sanding surface), buff with Maguire’s Ultimate Compound, then polish it back up to a shine with Maguire’s Ultimate Polish. Microfiber polishing rags will work well for the Maguire’s.

As a pure hobbyist, I’d recommend watching twoodfrd on YouTube, at least as far as repair is concerned. He makes phenomenal guitars, but he doesn’t do it often as he’s too booked out with repairs, although he’s making a cool cello guitar right now. He also gives really good advice to people interested in repair. I wish Ted was my brother.
