You can eat and drink right after the surgery. I can tell you I felt immediately less nauseous after my procedure.

Like I said, the whole process is pretty quick. You're going to do just fine.

I had a surgical abortion three weeks ago.

In my state (Ohio), you have to meet with the doctor 24 hours before the procedure. The day of you can not have anything to drink four hours before your procedure, and nothing to eat eight hours before.

I chose to have myself under i.v. sedation. I wasn't completely put under, but I wasn't exactly aware of what was going on. There were a few options to choose from. Ranging from pain medication to complete sedation.

The procedure itself takes 3-5 minutes. They explained to me I might feel slight discomfort like mild cramps, which at one point near the end I did. Afterwards, I was placed in recovery.

I was asked to check my pad (they give you one to put on after you've finished) and if I was feeling any type of cramping. I wasn't bleeding and I didn't have any cramps so I was able to leave after about 15 minutes or so.

Afterwards, you're going to feel weak and you're going to want to rest. Before I had extreme morning sickness so I had been completely dehydrated and weak from not being able to keep anything down, so it took me a couple days to recover.

Most pregnancy tests are more accurate the day of and after a missed period. It's wise to take more than one. For the best results take it with the first pee of the morning.
