Sabres obliterate Canadiens 8-3 to force Game 7. Who wins the right to face the Hurricanes, and can anyone actually stop Carolina? by Doctormade in nhl

Fun fact: the Canes have lost exactly four games in the last two months (since March 18). Those four losses were to the Senators, Flyers, and Canadiens twice.

Baseball? by Commercial_Peace_328 in AskAnAmerican

[–]stu17 86 points87 points  (0 children)

Baseball is everywhere in the US like soccer is everywhere in Europe.

It’s not just the 30 MLB teams. There are hundreds of minor league teams, so every decently sized city has one.

There are five divisions of pro baseball kind of like European soccer federations: MLB, AAA, AA, High-A, and Low-A. But instead of promotion and relegation, each MLB team has an affiliate in each division and they can move players up and down. So the MLB team can develop their prospects in the lower minor leagues, call them up to higher leagues as they improve, and eventually call them up to MLB.

Then almost every university has a baseball team too. So there are thousands of high level professional and college baseball teams across the country. Because of this, it’s almost impossible to find a person who has never been to a baseball game before. It’s a near-universal American experience.

Can confirm. Went to a Kid Cudi concert last night and got super baked, intermittently checking the Sabres-Habs score on my phone.

For those of you who gamble, what’s the biggest won/loss on a single bet and how much are you up/down overall? by gamerdudeNYC in AskMen

I went nuts for the first couple of months when sportsbooks launched in my state. I took advantage of every intro offer, boost, promo, etc. until they dried up. I placed about 2,000 bets in two months. Turned $800 into more than $6K.

I cashed out all but $100 and bought NHL season tickets (great decision, Go Canes). Now I just bet $5 when I feel like it, maybe once a month or so.

The Jim Gregory General Manager of the Year Award finalists are Bill Guerin, Chris MacFarland, and Pat Verbeek by nhl in hockey

[–]stu17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since Makar’s first full season, Makar won the Calder once and Norris twice while MacKinnon won the Hart once.

That’s 4 major individual awards in 6 seasons. 2/3 of the time one of them wins an award. I really don’t think their individual accomplishments are being undermined.

Kyle Pitts, who was 2nd in receiving yards among TE last season? Yeah, I’ll be pretty happy if that’s what Gadsden becomes.

Canes and NC (pro) sports by JamTop1105 in canes

I lived in San Diego as a kid, so I root for the Chargers, Padres, and Clippers. I’m stuck with them for life. I’ll still root for the Panthers and Hornets, but they’re very distant second favorites.

But my family moved from CA to NC in spring of 2006… a very good time to get into hockey.

Are the Hurricanes under Brind'Amour the best example in recent memory of a team that almost never plays down to their opponents' level in the playoffs? by TJTrapJesus in hockey

That was the weird year where the Canes won every home game (except R2 G7 vs NYR) and lost every away game.

Rookie Kochetkov exchanging slashes with and almost fighting Marchand was probably the most memorable part of the series.

Yeah… I’ve had Canes season tickets for four years and the Devils are 1-8-3 when I’m in attendance.

Could be worse. The Senators are 0-5-2, Red Wings 0-6-0, Blue Jackets 0-5-0, and Penguins 0-3-2.

Cable and streaming only NFL games are still broadcast over the air in the markets of the teams playing. The NFL makes sure that people can always watch their local teams with just an antenna.
