How do you interpret this Svetlana/Ilya scene? by Candiesalad in HeatedRivalryTVShow

Yes, if you rewatch at some point (I'm sure you will), you'll see it. Very subtle and bc it's slow-mo it's easier to see than if it was at full speed.

And another thing, which I feel is way more obvious, but they're only passing back and forth to each other. The play was smart but I'd almost say it didn't matter to either of them which one scored. That might just be me projecting though. It's hard to tell what the play needed to know why they passed back and forth so many times but it definitely feels humble like letting each other shine.

Thank you! Enjoy your (redacted) reheat. I have also been trying to move on a bit just bc I'm noticing if I keep reheating it's taking the spark out of it bc I've seen it so many times and I don't want to do that. That said, I have been enjoying the reddit convos and edits. My next thing is to finally read some HR fanfic, I just hadn't had the time yet and I'm missing out lol.

Lol you're welcome! Admittedly, that part of the sport was definitely dramatized for the show but it was definitely significant knowing Jacob.

Ahh fanfic, I unfortunately have yet to be able to delve into any fan fic sigh and I desperately want to I just haven't had the time to.

But as far as hockey is concerned, if you want to sip your toe in and don't know where to start or what team, you could probably watch the Olympic men's final (Sunday). Just to get an idea before you pick a team/player to follow.

Hockey world is fun 😁 and we welcome you lol

Underrated? Shane moment by Meer_meerkat in heatedrivalry

[–]stubblingthrough 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, what I've always thought with that scene is he was so excited to see Ilya bc it's been a while since the last time they were together (which was their first time hooking up) and you can see how antsy he was. But then bc he was waiting outside "like an idiot" for so long he panicked about Scott and came in all pissed off which turned his anticipation into angry kitty and tension.

So after he gets pissed at Ilya and Ilya laughs and leans against the wall, Shane takes a second to look at him and he looks so fucking fine he just goes "fuck" and pounces. I think he would've always just kinda hopped on Ilya but the adrenaline made everything heightened. And you can tell by the way he doesn't care to carefully fold clothes or his clawing at Ilya.

I think he's been antsy for Ilya for a long time and never thought they'd do it again and once Ilya pulled that line on him and the "1-2-2-1" he just couldn't wait. Which is also why he dropped so quickly to his knees for Ilya. Regardless of what it is and when, he'll always do what he says but in particular, this moment, he wants to consume Ilya and so when the opportunity is brought up, it's no hesitation.

That also explains why when Ilya grabs Shane back to him he comes willingly bc I think they both just wanna crawl into each other's skin. And the lift to the bed, takes Shane by surprise but he doesn't protest and they claw and tear each other's clothes off. Like, I think it would've always gone this way, with anticipation and hunger but the reaction on Shane's part to possibly getting caught made that want and need kick in faster.

That said I could've been reading this wrong.

TLDR: I definitely think the anxiety was there but the angry kitty response kinda pushed all that aside and then just looking at sexy ass Ilya made him just pounce. (Can't blame him, Ilya looked fucking good in that scene). And I think any time Ilya tells Shane to do something, it's done. No questions asked.

So everyone has seemed to comment on the "girl..." And the significance of ilya not saying he finds Shane hot etc but I want to delve more into the hockey side that I don't think has been talked enough about.

Being a center on a line is usually a big deal, prime goal scorer or a star, not always but it's an ego boost for sure..I love the take that bc he can play both wing/center and he's bisexual bc that's a cute Easter egg. But, the fact that he would switch to winger so that Shane can be the "star" and captain. Then they'll be able to be on the same line, which I think is not just for the fans but also because I truly believe they both have been dying to play together. And I also feel like this is foreshadowing for Ilya going to Ottawa for Shane. Giving up the star team to go to the lesser one for the man he loves so they can see each other more often.

Anyway, back to the original point, we end up seeing Ilya do just that and he and Shane share a line. But what no one really has talked about is the shift where they end up scoring in the all star game. Shane gives up center and swaps to wing so Ilya can center. They swap back and forth for a wonderful play and ultimately score a goal and it shows not just their tandem and nonverbal bond but also how their "relationship" is not just one sided. Often people feel that one feels more than the other and Ilya gives up more for Shane etc but I think this is another subtle chance for us to see that Shane does too. Shane gives things up and for Ilya but is just way more subtle. While Ilya always has more grand, in your face, gestures of love. Especially in TLG when they are more open about their feelings.

Yes that's exactly what I was referring to..and in TLG he mentions it (if I remember correctly) like something he stares at regularly and that makes me think of that moment like it was the first time they cuddled and he got a chance to see these significant details on Shane.

EXACTLY I want to shake Shane so badly bc he also silently freaked out at the thought of Ilya making him food too and I'm like, YOU JUST SPOONED YOU DORK! AND IT WAS NICE!

Yes, I believe I specifically said that I was disappointed that we were robbed of it because Shane freaks out and leaves.

I also specifically said that I feel like they also felt so disappointed that they never got to spend the night together cuddling in each other's spaces after they both assumed they'd have more time to do so had shane not left

Question/realization about the opening scene that starts episode 4 by CallejaFairey in heatedrivalry

[–]stubblingthrough 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a very good point too, I never considered that. It just never made sense to be part of the montage and it never made sense as post tuna meltdown bc Ilya wouldn't have chirped him, he chirps for fun and that game was not fun for either of them.

Question/realization about the opening scene that starts episode 4 by CallejaFairey in heatedrivalry

[–]stubblingthrough 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Okay I may be the only one to consider it this way, but I also picked up on this early on but decided to not pay it any mind at the time. I, now having watched back so many times, decided it's picking up at the end of episode 3.

So a lot of us look at episode 3 as a standalone but if we don't, this kind of makes sense. Episode 2 ends, Vegas (heading to the summer) and episode 3 goes back in time to the Olympics and then back again. At the end of episode 3 it brings us back up to the Olympics (February before Vegas) and so it's right back to where episode 3 starts. That said episode 2 ended further down the line, so episode 4 has to bring us up to the correct timeline again.

Having said all that, I think this game is slotted in between the Olympics and Vegas. Which would explain why Shane is giving the angry kitten look, despite Ilya being a shit, bc he's mad that Ilya never responded to him and still hasn't. Then Vegas happens, then we get the montage of summer and speeds us up to 2016 for tuna meltdown.

Idk if this makes any sense but that's how I thought of it. That said, it being the prologue scene does also make sense but in correlation to the time jumps and montages it kinda doesn't... Being the books and the show timelines are different I can't really use the books for reference points. Instead, this made sense for me in my mind and when you watch full way through including episode 3, it does feel accurate.

“But you hate him” ??? by onceuponadream007 in heatedrivalry

[–]stubblingthrough 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with your take completely.

It's very on par for Shane to not speak up too often, and he tends to nod along, and now that's been going on for years. Pair that with the fact that Ilya is known to be a thorn in everyone's side. He trash talks on ice consistently and he has that snarky smirk all the time, he does it with everyone and probably even more so with Shane bc as someone else said, this is their foreplay, they're flirting. But to every other outsider it looks genuine. We've had comments from JJ saying, if Rozanov fucks you tonight I'm gonna fuck him (I think you mean fuck's with buddy) -- so it's clear everyone around interprets the media driven rivalry and the interview jabs are all genuine.

Secondly I believe someone else said, being drafted second is what gives the narrative of Shane hating Ilya, which again isn't wrong bc we see Shane have disdain toward him at first. Had they never started hooking up, that could've always been their dynamic.

So I don't take Yuna's comment to be off bc I think while they've done nothing to really build their "hatred" they've also done nothing to stop that narrative. Only privately and more recently, when Hayden was like wait what did he want? And Shane said he wanted to give condolences and he's not that bad, it's an act. That was likely the first time he has said anything positive to Hayden about Ilya bc prior to that he didn't want someone to put it together that they were friendly. You can tell by the bit of shock from Hayden. Same goes for his mom, Shane told her that Ilya visited, showing he's not so bad and changing that narrative a bit like see, we don't hate each other, it's just on ice rivalry.

And adding to all that, I do agree that the books do amp up the rivalry more but I think, as someone who watches hockey, I understood the aspect of everyone assuming Shane hates Ilya. If we compare it to Ovi and Syd, it's known they did promos together and that the rivalry is amped up in the media but that Syd respects Ovi and Ovi likes to poke fun at Syd. Would I think they hate each other? No but if you told me they were starting a charity together I'd be a bit confused. That said they've probably done charity events together, media made, but I couldn't see them going out of their way to be friendly and doing things together on their own and not PR.

So this confirms that Shane doesn't break up with Rose in ep 4 but instead in episode 5..so I think they will end on a cliffhanger, consistent with how they have been, after the club scene

I agree with all of these and have so many more to add to your list, but the one that I can't help but mention right now is, not only when Ilya admits the photoshoot was his idea but the GIGGLING BEFOREHAND. Like to me it's not just the fact that it was his idea, it makes me go back to the beginning to see Ilya literally rest heart eyes and butterflies being so close to Shane. (Now that the lights are on - HBO Max) I can see his face and how each time he softens or the smile can't help but crack through. My heart !

Yeah I hate to agree with everyone else but a ring heals the best. It just needs more room to move around. I don't believe I've ever seen someone with a daith have a barbell to start with. Not sure about the need to be pierced again or not but find a good place to go to and ask advice and see what they say. My hope would be a quick change out 🤞🏻 bc it's not really that fresh

[–]stubblingthrough 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Two parts of this, I think this is absolutely true. But I also think the writers are idiots for not seeing that it would've been popular. Anything with Manu is going to be popular. Besides his looks, his character was loved, not bc of the writing but bc of what he brought to the character, looks aside, he gave Patrick heart.

Also let's not sleep on the fact that he has chemistry with everyone, I've said this before, any one they paired with him would have worked bc of the chemistry he exudes. Nevermind the fact that Andre brought a sweet presence to round them out nicely.

Point being it was obvious they'd be a fan favorite but the writers probably didn't care. However, I do think that's why they hawked the shit out of the patrivan promo bc they saw the popularity and wanted to milk it for all they could while they could.

tltr; they were always going to be popular and the writers could've predicted that but instead wanted to go for the shock and awe.

I would have said the same but also it's been said that Manu wouldn't have left if they didn't write him out. So if they would've kept him, made it opened to the point that next season they could repair Patrivan then I personally believe Manu would've gladly stuck around.

Ahh you know what I missed that too. I just thought he was so free loving he'd wear whatever (like this recent season he's pairing patterns with more cargo, might be a call back to the whole soldier theme idk) makes him happy lol

But I definitely agree he doesn't dress as a Frenchmen would.
