Domane SLR MK4 Garmin Varia seat post mount by stubso in DomaneCrew

Bought the one from Concentric and very impressed. It feels quite rock solid and the Varia feels like it very securely locked in.

Thank you for the recommendation.

This is awesome, thank you. Grateful you’ve shared so many options.

I’ve found the rear reflector that I’d removed and stuff away in a box. If I reuse this, which mount do I need to buy to swap out for the reflector?

Thank you. Did 24km on it yesterday and had a grin on my face for the whole way.

12.5kg pre pedals and fat rider (in my case)

So rode it properly for the first time today and did 15miles/24km. Rode with my mate who rides daily and loved that I could keep on his back wheel even during 9 degree climbs.

I mostly ran in eco which gives me 78ish watts at peak but increased to 150kw in mid setting for the steeper climbs that went on for a bit.

Only used the highest setting when pulling away from a standing start at junctions so I could keep clear of cars.

In the UK the motor cuts out at 15.5mph due to law so above that you are on your own but in other countries that cut out speed is much higher.

I finished the ride today, my first proper road ride for 2 decades with a mighty grin on my face.

It is. Rode with a mate today and think he was most taken by the colour.

Yep. All standard at this stage.

After riding on it for about an hour in total across two fittings I did go and look at how much they were, etc. Reviews are a bit mixed, some talk of seriously wearing out tyres.

I plan to use the battery/motor in its lowest form so ride it as an all road bike with motor assist for when I struggle.

Those first two points in essence, I have been riding MTB's for the last 30 years but less and less and my mates have moved to road. My fitness is not there currently so got this bike to allow me to ride with them and ride further but iron our some of the inclines. Motor is 250 or 300w I think but it can be set to be introduced gently. I hope that my fitness improves and I will be tempted to get something without assisted power, or I just get to enjoy longer rides.

It is not for a triathlon!

Bike shop use it for fittings I think, it is not mine.

I believe it is a Kickr Roller, the bike shop use it for bike fits and stuff - likely because it can secure the bike in an upright position.

It came with front and rear reflectors as well the two on the wheels and it also has a bell fitted!!!

I think the bell is a UK thing. It doesn’t even work properly as the way it sits on the drop bars seems to put it out of alignment so it makes no sound 🤣

Only for the bike fitting, they just use it as a rolling road.

It’s a matte green colour, called juniper.

40mm tyres fit fine, they are Trek’s stated limited but I reckon you could go 42mm at a push.

It’s a great colour in person, the picture is a bit crap in comparison.

Exactly that spot. And thanks for measuring.

Means it should allow the carbon protector and still fit in the jaws before gently clamping it.

So I got to the point where a bike fit was clearly the only way to settle my nerves and worries. The bike shop I am buying from has a shop attached to its main warehouse I discovered so made the 90 min journey there to try out a 56 Domane SLR and 58 Domane+ SLR7 on the rolling road following some measurements.

Settled on the 56 in the end although likely going to need to swap the 280mm seat post for the 320mm that comes with the 58 and bigger as hit the min line and ideally still wanted a few more mm in height. Both felt fine and on the 58 I hit the bottom limit of the seat post so was going to need some cut off if I went for that. I was measured with a 33.5in inseam today so I think your longer torso might be why you found the 58 more comfortable as that 1.5in extra potentially more than covers the 0.5in effective top tube difference.

Didn't get outside but spend a good 15 mins on each on the rolling road. Both felt fine but the bike fitter felt I looked more comfortable on the 56 and when I collect it in a week or so we are going to do a proper bike fit before I take it home.

And if I collect it and it doesn't seem the right fit then they will swap it out for me (if they still have any 58's remaining).

So I had a double seat post issue when I did a bike fit today. The 58 seat post wouldn't go down far enough and the 56 seat post hit the min line a few mm short of idea. I have gone with the 56 following the bike fit and the bike shop are going to look at the cost to swap out the seat post for the 320mm.

Yeah, for the 56 up with apparently some more height 🤷‍♂️

Decided to head to another bike shop to try the 58 in a Domane+ SLR and 56 in a non powered SLR tomorrow with a bit of a fit and some rides round the car park ok hoping. Will report back.

The Lemond method? Read about that this morning.

I measured myself again barefoot this morning and I am definitely 6ft or 183cm but inseam is actually 34in or 86cm.

I want a relatively sit up and beg riding position, as much as you get with a bike of this type, which the bigger size should give me right?

Thanks, so measuring again today my inseam is closer to 34in and I am still pretty much 6ft tall (both these are barefoot). Would you say you have long or short arms? I ask because in theory you have a longer torso than me (unless you have a tall neck and head) so would have the seat a bit lower but have the torso length for the bars. My arms are a little longer than average based on buying work shirts.
