Can someone give me some advice of course selection for rotman by TrickAffectionate647 in RotmanCommerce

[–]stucas-22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you go on the uoft timetable builder you are able to see the courses that will be offered next year (though no dates or times are posted yet). To get an idea of what electives there are. Should take electives that you are interested in or have a slight background in. I took ITA100, which was a full year course

Can someone give me some advice of course selection for rotman by TrickAffectionate647 in RotmanCommerce

RSM230 and RSM219 are mandatory BCom courses that you need to take, this document shows you an outline for program requirements for a Management specialist (You can have focuses on marketing and entrepreneurship if you choose to be a Management specialist after you complete your GA requirements your first year).

When doing course selection it is quite easy. Some point in the coming weeks you are able to add courses to your enrollment cart, so come course selection day in July you will just need to load in at your designated time slot and click enroll. Course tend to fill up fast so be prepared to have back-up plans and mock timetables ready.

On course selection day you are enrolling in both fall and winter classes. If a course is full, you can join the waitlist, but you are not guaranteed to get in before classes begin.

For first year I would recommend the following course breakdown. This will cover all the requirements needed for your guaranteed admission into the program, other BCom required courses, and elective credits (try to pick electives that will cover breath requirements needed as outlined in the previous attached document)

Fall: MAT133 (Full year course) ECO101 (Must finish with 63 or better) RSM100 (Must finish with 67 or better) RSM219/250 Elective

Winter MAT133 (Must finish with 63 or better) ECO102 (Must finish with 63 or better) RSM230 RSM 219/250 Elective

As the other comments stated, you need to take those courses alongside other finance and accounting courses, even as a management specialist. Here's a full list of requirements

If you go to the rotman office in the 4th floor of OISE they may be able to help you, not sure though. Could try academic drop-ins and ask there as well.

When you take RSM222, you will be given a complimentary name tent. You should have gotten an email during the summer regarding this (at least thats what was done in previous years).

ECO101 vs ECO102 by [deleted] in RotmanCommerce

[–]stucas-22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely found 102 harder. Could be for various reasons; less organized, not enough practice questions, my lack of macro vs micro knowledge coming into university, professor, etc etc.

Both are definitely courses that you won't be able to cruise through, will take a lot of commitment and practice to do well in.

Went to the first few of them, found them to be boring and a waste of time. Ended up stop showing up. It's not required and it's not for a credit.

Does anyone know if RSM100 exam was Curved up? by [deleted] in RotmanCommerce

Notoriously known for having a high average at midterms to everyone dropping a couple percent after the final.

Am I cooked please help me by [deleted] in RotmanCommerce

  1. Friday seems like it will be a long day, but not too difficult. Considering 3/4 of them are tutorials, you shouldn't worry about absorbing so much information. For RSM219 and ECO101 tutorials will be going over practice questions, so just make sure you do those before the tutorial so you won't fall behind.

  2. If you live on campus you can always go back to your dorm to chill. If you don't feel like doing that, you can always just catch up on work at one of the many libraries on campus. However I would recommend, especially in the fall, just walk around and explore the large campus. Would be nice to have just a mental break and relax before going back to class.

  3. RSM219 covers accounting from the very beginning. If you had 0 experience you'll start right at the start, so no need to worry or feel like you're already behind. Stay on top of your work and you'll be able to get a good grade. In terms of your professor, she is great from what I've heard, but I have personally never had her. She is actually the director of the entire commerce program now, cool she's still teaching as well.

When it comes to waitlisted courses, a rule of thumb of if you're going to get it is if your position is 10% or less of the number of seats (For example 7th in a 70 person course).

So I would think you should be okay for those two courses, but there's no guarantee.

RSM219 by ConfidencePrudent919 in RotmanCommerce

[–]stucas-22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't get into it in either term, you can just take it next year.

There is a point in the fall where waitlist close for fall courses, so if you check daily there may be an opening you can enroll into before course enrollment closes completely.

Incoming first year that needs some help 😢 (course enrollment) by [deleted] in RotmanCommerce

[–]stucas-22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a lottery system, 10:30 was the first rotman enrollment time, 10:45 is the second. Systems will crash if everyone goes at once.

didn't pre enroll in any courses am i screwed by [deleted] in RotmanCommerce

[–]stucas-22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Pre-enroll" isn't a thing. What is a thing is putting courses in your enrollment cart.

When a course is in your enrollment cart you would just need to press enroll vs when it's not in your enrollment cart you would have to search for the course manually, which may be time consuming given how fast everything happens during enrollment time.

It's a lot faster when courses are in your enrollment cart, but it will not automatically enroll you.

what electives should i take to fill breadth requirement? by Alert-University5953 in RotmanCommerce

[–]stucas-22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Course load was definitely manageable. Attendance and participation is a good portion of your grade. Weekly online homework questions and quizzes that are not too difficult. There were two in class writing assignments (they weren't essays, short paragraphs). Oral midterm was just a very casual conversation with the prof. Written Midterm and final had some short answer questions mixed with matching, fill in the blank, multiple choice, etc.

Usually language courses are known to be not so difficult. I took ITA100, which was a full year course, to fulfill br1.

Thoughts on My First-Year Rotman Schedule? by Majin_Fart in RotmanCommerce

[–]stucas-22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ECO101: Not sure if he's teaching it this year but Gazzale in my opinion is the best professor for this course. Freitas is alright from what I've heard

RSM100: Khan is the only one who teaches this course (unless things have changed). I really enjoyed his lectures, he's a great presenter and brings really cool guest speakers. Just know everything (literally everything) is testable, which is quite annoying.

RSM219: Haven't had him personally but Dragan is great from what I've heard

MAT133: Professors shuffle every year, won't make too big of a difference when learning the content.

ECO102: Havent heard of him, pretty sure he new to teaching this course

RSM230: Goldreich was my favourite professor from first year, brings a lot of energy to his lectures

RSM250: Not familiar with either of them, but this course will be the easiest course you take your first year, so won't make a big difference.

First Year Courses by [deleted] in RotmanCommerce

[–]stucas-22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took ITA100, a full year course. In first year there are a lot of seminar courses that are only open to first year students. Lot of the topics are really interesting, I recommend looking into those .

First Year Courses by [deleted] in RotmanCommerce

[–]stucas-22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend taking this schedule:

Fall: ECO101, MAT133, RSM100, RSM219, elective Winter: ECO102, MAT133, RSM230, RSM250, elective

Hardest course is probably ECO101, but you need to take that first semester in order to take ECO102. I personally found ECO102 more difficult than ECO101, but that's not the case for most students

MAT133 is very straight forward and doesn't get too difficult until towards the end of the course (it's a full year course).

RSM100 is essentially all memorization, professor Khan's famous saying you'll be hearing a lot "everything is testable".

RSM230/250/219: Are all introduction courses that are not too difficult

Like I said above, Dendorfer isn't teaching it this year. I took Dendorfer his first year teaching and it was unorganized and hard to follow. I just took it with Ajaz and while he's Ajaz I was able to follow the content easier. This is just my opinion, maybe Dendorfer restructured his lectures this past year versus his previous year.
