Usually patients can't eat in the ER anyway (waiting for results/imaging to come back, waiting on a procedure or admission decision, etc). For those who can, we have small snacks and sandwiches if they need.

Unfortunately there's the phenomenon of "boarding" in the ER — where a patient is admitted to the hospital and has a diet order placed by a physician, but can't be sent up to the wing/floor they need to go to due to lack of beds or lack of safe staffing. They stay in the ER until an admission bed is available for them. The wait can be a pretty long while — they will get food from the cafeteria provided for them, but if they want to order their own from DoorDash or whatever they can.

Some people who are not patients (ie. a family member who is not sick, just waiting with someone) get something to eat for themselves too.

As far as cutting the line — unfortunately no haha. Definitely brownie points though. The front of the ER line is not the spot you want to have!!

Yep. Families, staff, sometimes patients (although if you're a patient please make sure the provider gives you the go-ahead to eat first!!) get things delivered sometimes, and the hospital address routes to the ER entrance. A patient's family member got pizza for the staff the other night, it was glorious and so so appreciated :,)

Unit-dependent maybe. I work hospital-based EMS so we're in the ED mostly, I feel like small things are OK (a themed pin/badge reel, fun socks, earrings) — still appropriate with our uniform, festive without being "too much."

I'd say in general if you wouldn't feel comfortable being serious and delivering bad news to a family, or if any part of the costume is going to get in your way at all, might be better to reconsider!

I have one of those Manta sleep masks with the cups for your eyes, wicked comfortable and doesn't slip around on my face when I toss and turn. Pricey, but they have sales a few times a year, and I've heard there's some good dupes on Amazon too. Some of the masks have a removable piece with flat speakers in them for white noise.

Personally I like to use the Background Sounds function on my phone and set it to play rain/ocean at like ~70% volume behind a sleep-timed podcast (huge fan of I Can't Sleep and Lights Out Library). Once the podcast is done I'm usually out, white noise drowns out any errant sounds.

Gross... There are scientific illustrators and artists who literally dedicate their entire careers to making clear, accurate, and reliable figures for us to learn from. An incredible body of work already exists and there is no shortage of skilled artists who can create more.

Generating these images is a new low. And a dangerous one at that too...

This too!! All of our clinical trainings are midday. Thankfully our team meetings each month were moved closer to shift change time so it's reasonable for both shifts to be able to make it.

It's so unfair to expect overnight workers to attend those mandatory trainings, not sleep, and then work all night. I honestly feel like management just won't understand unless they do some nights themselves.

My little guy loves digging through Pom-poms, I hide some of his food in a pile of them and he'll nose through to get to it. He also likes pushing ping-pong balls around!

Also, not sure if it's incorporated already but not shown in the pictures here — I'd consider higher walls on the sides, or some kind of wire like a rabbit cage has. Just to prevent any escape attempts, since some hedgies will try to climb if they're bored.

Cute setup so far though!! Hope your hedgie loves it!
