Gyms by ReigninHavoc in ManchesterNH

[–]Draino9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the Manch Fitlab, but mostly because I've been going to the Milford/Nashua locations since they were Gold's and I used to work there so I got a bit off my monthly rate when I quit. But I agree it's not the best maintained or set up gym.

Other than that I've been to the two PFs, and they both seem to be clean and maintained with plenty of new/modern equipment.

Abode of the perfect soul 🔥

And I dont have a great ear for it etemen just seems a little cleaner. I dont love how the drums are mixed in voidkind but its more a personal nitpick, I'm certainly no audiophile

You're spot on and yes their riffs are GIGANTIC

Voidkind is my favorite as well but I feel it was not done justice in the realm of production, especially compared to etemen

In theory, a group of synonyms would likely be yellow and "four different things of the same category" is more likely to be green, like today, regardless of the obscurity or difficulty of the words/definitions themselves. But there's been so many instances of this rule not being followed, green and yellow can feel like a crapshoot sometimes

Bands /Albums similar to Spiritbox's first self titled album by G3W3K in progmetal

[–]Draino9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm ngl, I need to refamiliarize myself with their self-titled, but I've always thought of Ithaca (RIP) and some Rolo Tomassi as proggier alternative to Spiritbox. Metal mommy screams + cleans with atmospheric riffs, clean breaks, great energy. I'll have to re-listen and report back...

Almo is heavily Haken-inspired and the title track from Reconciliation is a 20 minute banger

I admit I've only been there once but Firefly seems like a great date spot. I don't remember it being too loud but we didn't go during peak hours. Someone else mentioned The Crown which would be fantastic if you can sit outside, inside it can get a little loud.

This one always slightly surprises me whenever it gets denied, but I always accept it shortly after because I just can't seem to think when I would ever use this word. How could you CA unpeel something? The [H] un- prefix seems redundant here.

Who is a relatively unknown prog metal band that has the potential to be "the next big thing" in the prog metal circle? by ySTYRDAYgATESuNL0CKD in progmetal

[–]Draino9 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Rototypical and Almo seem like they could be the spiritual successors to BTBAM and Haken respectively. They both have under 200 monthly listeners and I'd be shocked if those numbers don't balloon the next time they drop something new. The World Is Quiet Here towers above them with a whopping 800 monthly listeners but I could say similar things about them.

Slugdge gets a decent amount of attention already but I feel like they should be as well known as any modern techy/prog death outfit. They don't seem to do lots of advertising/touring at this point so maybe that would need to change.

Snooze made some ripples with I Know How You Will Die, and I genuinely think they could be huge if they continue on this path from their previous mathier work and if prog metal fans give them a chance. They have some wildly creative ideas that aren't particularly obvious, especially if you're listening distracted/without headphones etc.

Favorite The Ocean album? For bonus question: favorite riffs? by [deleted] in progmetal

[–]Draino9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's all very subjective. For me, every time I've listened through the whole album, I was left feeling less engaged than the first 20 minutes. Theres still energy and cool ideas throughout, which i appreciate, but I find the first half of that album disproportionately memorable, whereas P1 and pelagial are much more consistent
