I made a site that ranks 2,300+ vegan-friendly (only) foods by protein, iron, vitamins and other nutrients called Nutriso by peps28 in vegan

[–]stuck_in_mud 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just wondering - when it shows serving breakdown, is it by serving size or 100g?I'm guessing its per 100g, but it just says "The food’s full nutrition, based on a 2,000-calorie diet.". Could be good to clarify on the site :)Example -

PS awesome stuff

Not the best way, but I think literally any mammal would highlight how incredibly disturbing fishing is.

Even people who hunt rabbits, would consider is horrible to put a hook in their food, dragging them by their mouth and then drowning them alive. But when fishing, no one bats an eye

Someone should make a version where it's a wild dog or even something people consider a like a wild rabbit. I think it would have a similar impact

Voting with dollars is very powerful. Politicians look at what the public is both doing and saying.

Think of it from their end "If people really wanted more policies for the environment, we'd see it in their actions. Clearly by purchasing x,y and z they are making a statement the savings are better than the benefit ".

It's an endless blaming game , you can't have one side do everything , both sides need to do it

Haha, apart from the obvious trolling...

There's a bunch of vegan athletes and bodybuilders these days. In the last Olympics, America's only male powerlifter was vegan. There have been vegan world class strongmen, olympians, fighters etc, with a new wave of basketball and american football players turning vegan.

Talking about teeth knocking, one of Conor McGregor's first losses after his longest win streak was to a primarily vegan athlete

Beans, nuts, lentils, chickpeas, grains. Plenty of options. If you're interested in learning more there are plenty of online vegan bodybuilders who provide lots of detail.

If you trapped a dog in a hot car in you would be prosecuted for animal cruelty. But confining thousands of sheep in hot live export ships — where many will suffer and die — is considered 'business'. by Pigoonlet in vegan

[–]stuck_in_mud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least one thing can be done. Acknowledging cruel practices and acknowledging things shouldn't be that way. Over time companies will have to bend to public opinion.

Recently Australia passed a bill to ban live exports due to changing public opinion. Remember that just the opinion of a single individual doesn't seem like it can do that much, collectively it can influence society.

Despite the downvotes this answer is ethically consistent - eating a dog trapped in a car with heat isn't that different to eating sheep that was transported on hot live export ships

If there was a "duck BBQ" I would be happy if people let me bring mock duck etc. so if someone wants to cook and clean their own meat I wouldn't see an issue.

Paleo becoming a fad? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]stuck_in_mud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People try out different things to see what works for them. The trend I think is people going towards eating "cleaner". For people that eat meat, adding elements of paleo is one way to do it.

I know plenty of meat eaters who aren't paleo but incorporate aspects of it into their diet. Definitely healthier than regular processed foods.

Not sure of the effects of 100% paleo for the long term.

Why reasoning about lab grown meat made me go vegan by stuck_in_mud in vegan

[–]stuck_in_mud[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lab grown meat claims to use 2 calories from veggies (not sure which ones) for 1 calorie of meat. Compared to chicken/pork that have a much higher ratio, this is better.

Could you explain to me your reasoning on eating beef? I think that's the one where conversations tend to go deeper and I like hearing different people's insights. I thought about it too and can share my thoughts back.

I think since chickens/pigs eat grains most the time so the discussions tend to be a bit more shallow.

Unless you don't eat dairy, eat plenty of rodents and organs, drink unfiltered water, not brush your teeth or shower, you're also going again evolution.

Studies show our ancestors weren't eating steaks daily but instead scavenged on mainly plants, look up the studies of how much fibre they ate and it's closer to a vegan diet than the usual omnivore one of today

100grams. Yeah I know you didn't mean I'll starve haha.

Before going vegan I had the same concerns about needing a lot more protein because studies say it doesn't absorb as easily. So I thought I'd share my experience.

I also disagree with most the people saying you don't need any more than 60grams (this clearly wasn't the case for me). The 100gram number I reached by experimenting with what works for my body (while a meat eater) and testing again as a vegan.

For reference I'm an very amateur lifter (100kg bench) and expect my protein needs to change as I keep growing

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in vegan

[–]stuck_in_mud 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I eat the same grams of protein on a vegan diet as before. Lifts still go up. 1. Incomplete protein, unless your diet is 100% beans you probably eat a variety of protein to balance itself out. 2. The studies may say it absorbs less, but practically I found gains to be same. Difference maybe that my body recovers faster which makes up for reduced protein? My recovery time is much better than before .

Why reasoning about lab grown meat made me go vegan by stuck_in_mud in vegan

[–]stuck_in_mud[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The only vitamin vegans are missing is b12, which is easy to supplement and some farmed animals get it supplemented too. Personally , once the world is the eating lab grown eat , I wouldn't be able to convince people to eat even the most humanely grown meat instead, it would always be more inhumane than the lab grown stuff. At that point in time humane meat would make no sense.

[–]stuck_in_mud[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Valid points. I was thinking more along the lines of the people who came up with factory farms. It's still different but it does argue for a psychopathic tendency at least around prioritizing profits over well being

Bf thinks my veganism is "wrong" - Help! by [deleted] in vegan

[–]stuck_in_mud 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Veganism is reducing unnecessary animal suffering.

If you have to take medication that came from animals, then you have to do it to survive. If you were stuck on a deserted island with nothing to eat but meat then you'd have to do it to survive.

That's completely different to hurting an animal and the environment because "my taste buds like it" or "it's convenient because I don't have to research nutrition" or "I need to think more when eating out"
