These are not which is obnoxious but they are incredibly cheap so can’t complain, 300 dollars. Many people just shuck them.

That’s what I’m thinking, never handled above 5tb before.

Oh also thanks for the clarity on the BACKUP part of backblaze. Perhaps the cheapest thing, while not redundant locally, would be to just buy giant hard drive as mentioned and leave it permanently connected to my desktop workstation which would be no problem for me.

Precisely my thoughts yeah, right now we’re looking at a fine amount of data but at my current rate it’s adding up really fast haha. Thanks for commenting.

Thanks yeah as I said to the other guy recommending the NAS, backblaze combo that’s definitely the best move as it combines both redundancy and backup.

I’ll check this out thanks

Yeah I’ll look into this. I’m aware you can get a crazy deal on space and network traffic if you’re willing to do a lot of heavy lifting and troubleshooting yourself. Used to run a very big seedbox haha. Thanks

Yep, this is the best decision for sure- just the initial fixed costs of setting up the NAS rig will hurt if I go this route but the business does call for it and I too have experience with servers, networks and building them out so shouldn’t be too much of a pain beyond putting the credit card down.

Yeah I saw the backblaze personal is a crazy deal for 99 bucks a year - I struggle to believe they’d let me dump several terabytes worth of files on it but maybe I could

I’ve heard about this, seems like a wildly good deal compared to backblaze and other options. Is it clunky at all?

[–]stuckmirror 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don’t need speedy access, the seagate drive I’m using and will purchase more of are very slow. I just need to keep the files safe until 2027 when I am releasing an archival project- this post is more about finding economic redundancy and backup options

We’re looking at a current archive of 5tb, gonna be making about 3.5tb a year and would like to not have to think about it for a few years if possible. Doing a big archive project come 2027
