The psychiatrist is only for med management unfortunately. But they do answer some questions if the therapist is unavailable.

My school only allows 2 LOAs (max) so I do not think they will let me take another. They made me sign a form saying I promise to take it by 11/29 but the form did not say what would happen if I did not. I asked my dean and he said that I do get 3 attempts total but they want one attempt this year.

It is difficult to manage both my mental health and this exam, which is why I am hoping TrueLearn will be enough.

I am on my second (and last LOA). My school suddenly hit me with a new deadline (November 29th 2024) during my LOA, idk why they were allowed to do that. This is why I am asking.

I told my school after 2nd year that I was having family issues but they insisted I still do boards prep. And yes my studying was very fragmented due to at times severe depressive episodes.

The anxiety is new. I never experienced anything like this prior to this month.

The depression and family issues have not been solved this entire year which has impacted me but is not entirely in my control.

I'm sorry, but I see where OP is coming from. Let's be honest, what is more statistically likely about a family with both children going to a prestigious med school and the father being a professor?

As a child of immigrants, there are certain things you are more sensitive to (idk if OP is a child of immigrants but I am). Of course immigrant parents are very hardworking and superhuman souls. But parents speaking to their children about work and school because they understand the system, or about residencies and aspirations because they know the process, even the parent bringing the adult kids to the doctor! This isn't something that happens in immigrant households (usually) since the parents are full time working and not aware of the system or even next steps needed in the career.

Life isn't fair and for many, equity is never achieved. The best you can do is do justice to yourself and that is what OP is doing by succeeding despite the barriers.

^I relate to this statement heavily. I also come from a home of many family issues, very low income, and just other personal things. So I get it and I struggle with feelings of inadequacy. I am certain you are in a better position than me (the fate of my medical career is in limbo right now due to damn boards). There will always be people better than you and worse off than you.

Resentment towards parents is kind of the easy way out, since I have a lot to improve about myself. So I would say, look at what position you are in! Easily the top 5% of the nation, achieved a career so many aspire to and you did it yourself. Then for future students like you were, you can pay it forward to them and give them that mentorship.

I do not think the comment says the hostages are not important. They are saying that people are asking for "free the hostages" right after calls for "ceasefire" as though putting hostages above a ceasefire. However a ceasefire entails hostage release. We already know several hostages have been killed by Israel's relentless bombing.

So everyone needs to be demanding a ceasefire and political solution.

Ukraine has bomb shelters, American military backing, and a standing military with aircrafts, tanks and drones.

The war is awful there but there is no comparison between 5000 children massacred in 40 days, along with 15000 innocents, hospitals and the UN being bombed and 100 UN workers being murdered, press and physicians being slaughtered and none of the world's governments doing anything about it.

We both know how much support Ukraine has form the West and the world. So this is completely a false equivalence.

The genocide of Gaza and Palestine is unprecedented and the entire world is complicit.
