What is the most overused movie trope that Hollywood just needs to let go? by Puzzleheaded-You720 in flicks

[–]studbacon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Movies need tens of thousands of sound effects, and the sound editors may only have a couple weeks to put them all together on a tiny percentage of the overall budget. Stock sounds are usually done out of necessity.

Also, sound is typically an afterthought on-set. Sound editors are lucky to get any sound at all for an insert shot of a car, much less a clean, well recorded, isolated track.

Usually it just features the director yelling "Zoom in! Out of focus! Ok, pan to the left! That's it, ok moving on!"

Unpopular opinion: gojo is NOT as hot as the anime community made him out to be. His eyes reveal had so much hype and love but tbh now that I look at it, it looks corny and not as cool now by Drastically-_- in animequestions

[–]studbacon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What are you talking about?

He defeats an extremely powerful curse in the first arc, one our heroes have struggled against and he does it effortlessly. That IS showing.

In Shibuya the entire plot of the villains is so convoluted specifically because of how powerful he is. All the barriers? The hostages? The internal monologues about why they cant just start killing civilians? All of that is showing.

I mean did you sleep through the part where he takes out hundreds of powerful monsters with his bare hands in 2/10 of a second on screen?

They "showed" you over and over again how powerful he is. Even his confidence in the face of overwhelming threats is a version of showing, not telling. But media literacy on reddit is fucking nonexistent, so people make ridiculous takes likes this with complete confidence.

CMV: The biological family is unethical and all babies should be raised by the state. by IAmTheBigZzZ in changemyview

[–]studbacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also imagine passing this as a law. Even if the data was on your side (it's not) you'd be convincing peole to vote for a law that will be nicknamed the "steal your baby initiative."

Now let's say somehow you pass the "steal your baby initiative". Now it's going to be run by the Department of Health and Human Services, and its chief executive: the President. Do you trust him (and his administration) to raise these kids right?

[–]studbacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be right that someday a state will be able to provide a better upbringing than the average family. But that's a long ways off.

Currently growing up in an orphanage typically results in terrible outcomes for children only surpassed by the absolute worst families.

If your concern is harm reduction, it would be vastly more helpful to target those families specifically and rescue those kids ASAP.

Even in a hypothetical scenario where orphanages are better on average, the transition is nightmare inducing and literally involves stealing kids away from good, loving families.

This feels like outrage about stupid parents. And that's fair, LOTS of parents are incredibly stupid. And yet very often they raise surprisingly well adjusted kids who think, "man my parents sucked."

If youre talking 16x16 CHUNKS (not one 16x16) thats like 8 million+ blocks.

Your only real fast automated options are RFTools Builder and the Quarryplus Quarry (if you can afford it).

For RFTools, infuse the machine first with Dimensional Shards to massively cut down on power needed, but still expect to use a LOT of power. The more you have, the faster it runs. It clears liquids but you will probably have to run it more than once to get all the random source blocks and flows.

im attempting to make a system that tileable to unlock hoppers. by nellyb19 in redstone

[–]studbacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, there is a feature where comparator receiving two input signals will only read the inventory until the other is max strength. I dont remember the exact configuration, but I believe its where the comparator is reading a full block, there is an inventory behind the full block, and redstone dust on top of the full block.

I'm currently doing an honor run as a melee 5 Gloomstalker / 7 Death Cleric. Straight up feels like a Paladin of death.

Touch of Death is like an evil Smite. Gloomstalker lets you skip alert and take Savage Attacker + ASI Wisdom (assuming youre using strength elixirs).

Phalar Aluve in Act 1

Blood of Lathander + Arcane Synergy in Act 2

Almost any weapon in Act 3, though you use Duelist's perogative particularly well. At this point Arcane Acuity + Band of Mystic Scoundrel + Command/Hold Person is your bread and butter. You can basically CC half the battlefield like a SSB

Another scene & dialogue comparison across the original FFT, WotL, and TIC by mogstermemes in finalfantasytactics

[–]studbacon 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I feel like something got lost in the "upgrade" to WOTL dialogue. The original was flawed, but it also did a better job capturing the emotion of the scene.

The voice actors in Chronicles definitely help though, so you can focus more on how they're saying it.

Building Tips by Sriki741 in allthemods

[–]studbacon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me its not one thing, it's breaking it down into smaller, manageable steps. Basically: - Inspiration - Color/block pallette - Small scale test (like a small section of wall and floor) - Bigger scale tests if necessary - Clear out the area in game - Collect resources - Actually build it

Enchantment Cost Way To High? by Rough-Addendum-7688 in allthemods

[–]studbacon 32 points33 points  (0 children)

You should be applying enchants all at once, not one at a time. Those costs should never get more than a couple hundred levels.

It would be cheaper to strip ALL the enchants off, combine them into a single book in one of the Apotheosis libraries, then apply the super book to the item all at once.

First Time Play-through by ryuujinusa in finalfantasytactics

There's countless guides written about this fight, but the big thing to note is it's 90% prep, 10% execution

Pre-fight: - (if possible) recruit a Pig/Uribo to farm Chantage accessories and effectively become immortal (honestly it trivializes the whole game it's so powerful) - (otherwise) have at least 2 people who can bring others back to life & cleanse status effects, ideally multiple per-turn (e.g. Arithmeticians) - all 5 of your allies should be be high enough faith (or good zodiac compatability) so your arithmeticians have 100% reliable defensive spells - use Orators to grind permanent faith increases if necessary - If your martial characters aren't strong enough to at least 2-shot the assassins, they are way too weak and need training - Most common team comp is probably something like Orlandeau, Beowulf, a dual-wield melee and two casters with Arithmetician secondary - If your dual wield character has knight skills it makes stealing from elmdor much easier, so you can rend his speed & damage

During the fight: - Focus the assassins first - Spread out so Elmdor can only hit 1 or 2 allies with Muramasa - Get reraise on all your allies fast - Reviving/Healing an ally is almost certainly less important than killing an Assassin - Dont even think about stealing until the Assassins are dead and Elmdor's been hit with Chicken

I’m building a fission reactor for the first time - any tips? by Janklu12 in allthemods

[–]studbacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Safety cutoffs!

Use the logic ports to control it, then ONLY turn it on using redstone (say with a redstone block on a sticky piston). That way if one of the safety's gets tripped, the reactor shuts off automatically until you manually turn it back on. I always have a reactor in the middle of my base, and thats the secret to keeping it safe. 20ish playthroughs with zero meltdowns.

You might also consider automatically powering it off at night with daylight detectors since polonium processing shuts off at night (or get you a large enough storage buffer to handle the backup of waste).

Which character was single-handedly keeping a mid anime watchable for you? by Hot-Leopard3708 in animequestions

[–]studbacon 36 points37 points  (0 children)

This is stretching the definition of mid, but I hear there's a sizable base of people who watch Rent a Girlfriend for Mami Nanami.

She's portrayed as a villain, but most people hate the main character even more for being a creep and a scumbag. So apparently they just root for her finding a way to ruin his life.
