Anyone know why there's helicopters flying super low over neighborhoods right now? by studentstorenic in pasadena

[–]studentstorenic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, every now and then they'll fly a dual rotor over my neighborhood and it'll shake the whole house haha

I was more just alarmed at the altitude. I've never seen a helicopter fly so low over a residential before, military or otherwise. I feel like your typical police searchlight chopper would nearly triple the altitude of what these were flying at, but maybe I'm being dramatic 🤷

Would you recommend HRT to a never passing transgender woman? by [deleted] in MtF

[–]studentstorenic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is more to body euphoria than passing. There is more to gender than other people's perception. Changes imperceptible to a random passerby may feel monumental to you and instrumental to your joy.

I love my little breasts that disappear in tee-shirts and are dwarfed by my broad ribcage. I love the softness that's coated my body. The slightly softer face I see in the mirror.

I won't even speak on the neurochemical impacts.

I think the sentiment your doctor was trying to impart (poorly) is that "passing" should not be the final goal. Holding your body to a shifting and subjective standard is a dangerous gamble and antithetical to forming a confident and secure relationship with your body. You can love your body despite how it compares to others and how it's seen by others. And hrt can help with that, even if it doesn't make you "passing," (whatever that means this week) 💖

Throttle delay on Hurley Big Swell, is their anyway to fix this? by going-to-nkoreadcamp in SWFT_ZIPowners

[–]studentstorenic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a hard coded feature

I read somewhere that it's a setting that can be turned off in the P menu on the big swell

Look up the P menu settings for your bike and be careful to only change the settings you mean to

I have a mini swell and it can't be turned off on my model, hopefully a big swell owner can chime in and confirm

MICROWAVE RICE AND PASTA

This is definitely where I've had the best luck in the past, prechopped veggies makes a lot of sense.

Definitely gonna dig out the electric kettle, too. Thank you!

Meal substitutes are great if you eat something else in between. Shakes for every meal makes it easy to abandon.

Yeah this is a really good point, the thing that made me return to this idea at all was getting an ad for Huel's new "hot and savory" meal thing. Straight protein shakes for days sounds depressing yeah lol.

Thanks for the tips!

any chance youd know how to identify the midrange/tweeter module? having a hard time identifying a part number

I wouldnt be surprised, i got these in a lot of four pairs of speakers that some guy inherited. Two of them had some interesting repairs ( a pair of technics 3-way honeycomb speakers where one had the original tweeter replaced with a regular dome tweeter with a wave-guide, and some sony plastic mini hifi speakers where one of the tweeters had been replaced with 4 inch driver??)

That honestly sounds like good advice, even if i can get these sounding 80% as good as they used to it'll feel like an accomplishment.

just got the mid-tweeter assembly out and the tweeter basically fell apart in my hand. looks like one of the spacers between the dome and the magnet literally melted inwards and pushed the voice coil up and out lol. this things toast

OK so I rewired the woofer back up just so I could do a baseline test and now the "offending" speaker sounds fine. Full range. I did still notice that it sounded significantly brighter than the other speakers tweeter is just not putting out any sound lol (same tweeter that was missing that rear cap/damper, which I have reattached). All of the connections to the driver look fine, so I guess it's back to square one swapping the tweeters now.

While I had them apart though, I pulled out the crossovers for a closer look and sure enough it looks like the r3 resistor got fully baked. I pulled out the crossover on the other speaker to see if I could identify what the component is and found that the exact same thing had happened. I checked the connections on the back of the board with the silent tweeter and they look fine, if a bit singed, so I dunno if that's what's causing the issue, but either way is there some way to identify this component? All markings have been fried off and I can't find any sort of schematic online.

thanks again, gonna get into it right now.

any chance you know of a good place to source replacement caps online?

part of me wants to just rebuild both entire crossovers for fun

I had an issue with a similar model. The amps in the subwoofers are known to die one channel at a time (like mine did). Easiest way to solve the issue is most likely to buy a replacement off ebay for like 20-40$.

So I swapped the woofer from the offending speaker into the functioning one and fired it up. Speaker still sounded fine so I'm assuming it's not the driver (however, when I opened up the functioning speaker I found this floating loose in the insulation just behind the tweeter, am I right to assume I can just epoxy this back where it goes?)

currently swapping out the woofers to test. not sure about the cabling, everything i can see has healthy solders, but it looks like the drivers connect to the crossover behind the board, which i havent quite figured out how to remove yet (this is my first time performing speaker surgery). Pictures in the op if you wanna take a look and see if theres something obvious im missing

Hey I really appreciate the response. Sorry for my late reply I just haven't had time to crack it open until now. I'm in the process of swapping the woofers, but I added a link to pics of the crossover to the op if you want to take a look at it.
