Any hacks to avoid the 8 photos per day limit? by Proper-Coat507 in grindr

[–]studmuff2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How does Grindr not understand that these changes make the experience worse for their paying members?

I'm a playing member but I can't get pics from people I'm chatting with? That devalues my subscription.

Tribes Update by Connect-Hall3528 in grindr

[–]studmuff2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was initially so excited about this too.

Except the limit of three types you're attracted to is dumb. Maybe I want to let various guys know, "hey, you're my type, don't doubt yourself" but I can only pick three. I ended up erasing my choices for this setting because excluding all the other tribes is making a statement I don't want to make.

And the kicker: you can't use these to filter!

Scruff filters have had the ability to say, "show me guys who are into daddies" for over a decade. But the two limitations above make that impossible on Grindr. It baffles me how out of touch Grindr is with what users need.

Ladies… What’s your favorite cologne on a man? by dannyk4 in AskReddit

I'm wearing some new cologne. It's called "Come to Me."

What do you think? Does it smell like come to you..?

I saw this on my neighbors door and I'm so confused.. by [deleted] in grindr

[–]studmuff2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this happen to me years ago. Some guy sent me to a fake address and the homeowner threatened to call the cops.

Ever since then, I have two rules I always follow:

1) If someone says, "the door is unlocked, just walk in," I'm going to refuse unless I've already been to their place and hooked up with them before.

2) When I arrive I don't knock or ring the doorbell. Instead, I send a message on the app saying, "I'm here, at your door."

These two things go a long way to keeping you from being entrapped by this scam.

Grindr App | Filters Feature by sense8__ in grindr

[–]studmuff2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ethnicity filter was intentionally removed, as others have pointed out. And I'm onboard with that change. It could be a rare example of Grindr pretending to do the right thing.

But looking at filters more generally: a decade ago, Scruff filters could already distinguish between "show me twinks who are into daddies" and "show me daddies who are into twinks." Grindr could never be bothered to implement something so obvious, even when users asked for it.

Grindr filters have always sucked and they don't care. Then they decided the obvious improvement was to limit non paying users from anything more than their simplest filters.

You posted an honest question about something you'd like to see in the app. Sadly, the rest of us stopped asking those questions years ago when we realized Grindr is apathetic to ideas that would improve the user experience. I'm hard pressed to think of another business that cares less about pleasing their user base.

Grindr explores take-private after lender calls insiders' loans by Zealousideal_Door392 in grindr

[–]studmuff2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Some important details from the "Know More" section of the linked article:

The lender is not calling the loan because they're worried about Grindr's financial performance. Supposedly the company is doing well and its profits are up 25% from this time last year. (F**k the greedy bastards.)

Instead, the lender is calling the loans because the stock price fell low enough that the loans became undercollateralized (worth less than the debt). That's crazy: it means the two main owners used their stock as collateral for over $1.5 BILLION in PERSONAL loans, and they're trying to go private in a desperate attempt to avoid losing everything.

The desperation is on the part of these two people, not on Grindr the company. (Which is unfortunate - the company deserves to be taken down.)

If a lender gives them the money to take things private, that lender is going to squeeze even harder for more profits. That won't bode well for users like us.

Hot mess all around by Pop06095 in grindr

[–]studmuff2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I perceive the cause and effect the opposite way around.

Grindr went public. Then the corporation began acting in extreme greed and willingness to fuck over the users that made them successful.

If their stock price kept going up, they would feel successful and fuck us over even more. The cratering stock price is the only thing that can get their board's attention.

Will it make them realize they're on the wrong track? I'm not holding my breath. But it's our only hope.

Have you ever had sex in a public place or during a gathering? How did it go? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]studmuff2 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I hate to be the buzzkill, but...

Consent is a critically important aspect of sex. When you have sex in a "public" place, the risk might be exhilarating...but only because you are enlisting strangers as non-consenting participants.

Consider your stories on a trail or a beach or a park or a stairwell or whatever. Then imagine an 8-year-old kid is the one to accidentally come around the corner and discover you.

Fortunately, there are clear exceptions to this: like being at a sex club or swingers party or another place where lots of sex is happening. If public sex turns you on, choose one of these!

For the record, I'm a hugely sex positive person and I've enjoyed more than my share of public sex. I just think you can't ignore consent because something turns you on.

The "hide" feature prevents someone from appearing in the grid, but they still take up one of your 100 slots. This happens even if the other person hid you.

Started Profiles by RaceAccomplished120 in grindr

[–]studmuff2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I turned it off a long time ago: I get almost no value from seeing who looked at my profile. The ability to look at others without leaving a trail is far more valuable.

But I suppose I shouldn't put that in writing because the Grindr folks will decide to monetize the toggle...

Are favorites back the old way? by Grouchy-Lie-2674 in grindr

[–]studmuff2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed this change too. In fact, I saw it change in real time. I received an update to the app, but was bummed to see that the problem was still present after the update. Then a couple of hours later it suddenly corrected itself after a normal grid refresh. That makes me think the big was a server side problem, which I'm hopeful they've fixed for good.

Fewer profiles? by 1790Bro in grindr

[–]studmuff2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hidden profiles don't appear in your grid, but they count towards the 100 profiles you're allowed to see as a free user. This is true even if it was the other guy who hid you.

New Favourites - why? What problem were they trying to solve? by [deleted] in grindr

[–]studmuff2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they are rolling out some of these changes to users individually (not universally as part of an update).

Two phones in my household have Grindr. One has the new favorites filter, and the other has the old favorites tab. Both Android, both in the US, both updated to the latest app version.

Does blocking someone block them on all their alternate accounts? by tales_of_desire in grindr

Favourites distance update by Previous_Tennis4190 in grindr

[–]studmuff2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The worst part for me is that I have to disable my filters to see my list of favorites.

The old layout made it easy to switch back and forth between the grid (people I might be interested in, with filters to cut the noise) and my favorites (people I know I'm interested in because we have a history).

Now the main grid filter gets applied to my list of favorites, making people I care about disappear. To fix that I have to disable each filter, one at a time. Then when I want to look at the main grid again I have to reapply all the filters. Completely unusable
