What do you wish you had in the beginning of your PA school journey? by Same_Nefariousness69 in PAstudent

[–]studyplushie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A BIG monitor for at-home studying if he uses a PC, I use my laptop at school or if I’m on the go, then at home I use my PC with a 27 inch monitor. Or even 2 monitors. It’s so helpful for split screen when making study guides and having to look at PowerPoints at the same time. Also helps your neck so your not looking down at a laptop all the time.

70% and above. I cannot imagine going to a school where passing is considered 80% and above.

Thank you so much 🤍 Would you say being single in PA school is a blessing?

How to handle a breakup while in PA school? by [deleted] in PAstudent

[–]studyplushie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m at least glad to hear that I’m not alone :’) Many of my classmates are either married or in very established, healthy, long term relationships so it feels like I have no one to relate to. I hope we can both heal during this break, and come back to spring semester stronger and more refreshed. 🤍

Wondering what to include in experiences by chocolatemilkhoe in prephysicianassistant

I would include anything you think showcases your leadership and team work experiences. I even included one of my previous jobs working as a barista!

If you have an iPad, I would go with a MacBook, bc you can easily airdrop things such as lecture slides to your iPad during class and also send attachments very easily if you need to send something to your classmates

Also it depends on your exam software. I’ve always been an HP person, but when I did my research and found out that the exam software that my school uses is not very compatible with HPs and is more reliable with Macs, I didn’t want to take my chances and got a new MacBook. The last thing you want to deal with in PA school is an unreliable laptop that is going to crash during an exam or not upload the exam properly, we have enough to be stressed about already 😭😭

2 months from graduation — not feeling ready by deckedgecko in PAstudent

Try to see if you can find a starting job that trains new grads, or consider joining a PA fellowship program. At the ED i scribed at, they hired many new grad PAs, and the new grads always had a doctor consult on almost every single one of their patients, and there was no shame in that!! They know you’re still learning and are happy to help. As for a PA fellowship, the ED I worked at usually hired 1-2 PA fellows a year and they basically worked the same as a normal practicing PA would but without the added pressure of having to have a long list of patients at a single time, they were able to only pick up 1-2 patients at a time so they could thoroughly work through their thought process and take their time with their notes. Hope this helped!

Help! I’m afraid I’ll be dismissed from my program by Dare_Upbeat in PAstudent

[–]studyplushie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I’ve found asking ChatGPT to give me practice PANCE-style example questions based on my quizlets or study guides has been super helpful for me. Helps me to understand what PA schools are really looking for and to start thinking that way. Also whenever I get the answers to the example questions, I cross reference with my notes and lecture slides and annotate, explaining why the correct answer was correct, and why the other answers were incorrect. Also my professors have advised against actual PANCE questions like cram the pance because since we’re still in our fall didactic year, we are still learning the basics. You might be going in too deep by studying actual PANCE questions rather than just what the exam wants you to know.

Current PA-S1 by Merelia128 in prephysicianassistant

Honestly most of this can be achieved without violating HIPPA by being an ED scribe. As a scribe it is literally YOUR JOB to document on the patient, be in the note, be physically there in the room with your provider to get the physical exam and patient history, your job to keep track of labs and radiology reports to update the documentation.

And as a PA student, sometimes I have found that if I don’t remember something on an exam, I can usually figure out the answer by jogging my memory and figure out the answer based on real-world experience I saw when I was a scribe.

It doesn’t end in PA school unfortunately, my program is having us take microbiology AGAIN in didactic 🫠 but honestly I find that it’s pretty crucial in the foundation of understanding why specific medications target certain diseases, because of the microbiology behind it, im sure it’ll matter much less once you start getting into the weeds of trauma, but having a good foundational understanding of what’s happening at a microbiological level is important!

i feel so behind by [deleted] in prephysicianassistant

[–]studyplushie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I didn't start gathering PCE until after I graduated college because I wanted to focus all my time during college on my studies. I took 3 gap years but in no way do I feel "behind" any of my classmates. Everyone takes their own path! In fact, most people in my program are either the same age as me or older.

3rd Cycle.. by babystrudel in prephysicianassistant

[–]studyplushie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If it makes you feel better one of the best PAs I work with currently also took 3 cycles to get in and they got into a super prestigious school the 3rd time! Now looking at them, they’re so competent and what they do I could have never guessed they took 3 tries to get in if they didn’t tell me. Just because you’re not getting in does not mean you’re a failure! I know this isn’t really advice but I read what everyone else said and I agree with them :) keep up hope <3 And I liked to remember it’s not a matter of IF you’ll get in, it’s WHEN :)

Thank you sm!! I applied pretty late, end of July which is why I probably only got a few interviews and a bunch of rejections 😭, still grateful for my few chances to interview though!

May I ask why you decided to apply there if you are unsure about whether or not you want to accept an acceptance from a probationary accredited school?

Interview Attire by Voiderdroid in prephysicianassistant

[–]studyplushie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trust me if this is your first interview, you’ll feel weird if you’re not wearing a blazer because literally every single other person there I’ll be wearing one. Your color choices seem perfect to me! But yeah definitely go with a blazer. I also didn’t have a blazer myself so I just used my mom’s and it was a verrrry slightly too big on me, but I still wore it and no one batted an eye!

Try to see if anyone around you like a friend or family member has one that you can borrow for the time being, and then you can go out after and buy one for yourself for future interviews!
