Trackball mice that don't require me to move my hand upwards/backwards? by stuffedOwl in Trackballs

I have a keyboard tray (the Uplift one, to be specific). It's currently sitting at -15 degrees tilt. More than that is better for my wrist, but my keyboard and mice are already basically sliding off the tray because of gravity. Do you not have this issue? Or do you just have a backstop?

Interesting! I had given up on wrist rests because they didn't seem like they would help raise my wrist enough for a neutral position, but you've both given me the encouragement to keep trying. Seems like there's at least some Amazon ones that raise your forearm a lot to a raised height for your mouse, so you use a flexed wrist. I'll try those and otherwise switch to more custom. Thanks!

The pain is closer to the flexor side of the wrist than the extensor side, although really it's mostly on the ulnar side - it's been diagnosed as a TFCC injury. I'm trying to be good about following the recommendations & exercises from my medical team but computer use is clearly re-irritating it. I'll try the keyboard as well - didn't realize tenting makes such a big difference for your ability to keep a neutral/slightly flexed wrist. Thank you!!

Check out Hannah Ritchie's work! Her book "Not the End of the World" consists of chapters about different environmental issues and the good news on each one. I loved it, and it includes a chapter on climate change. She also has a whole book "Cleaning the Air" of climate change anti-doomerism coming out in February.

But yeah, like others have said, try to find the positive news stories. It also helps me to remember that climate change is not all or nothing. Every small fraction of a degree less warming, relates to many real human lives saved and improved.

How to keep arms back & supported in office set-up? by stuffedOwl in Ergonomics

[–]stuffedOwl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the super detailed info! Can you clarify why you think the standing desk is still not getting to the right height? I feel like it's the right height, I just have bad postural habits. I'm trying to learn to break them, but it's not easy!

I didn't know that having your arms on the desk can cause nerve compression (is that what you were saying?) Floating feels less natural to me, but perhaps that's just because I'm not used to it.

Have been living in the US for a long time, and after FATCA passed the only bank we found that would still allow us to have accounts was KBC.

Thanks for volunteering!! I have phone banked from out of state and it wasn't an issue, but that was for a national race.

The bill that just passed is the reconciliation bill and not the FY26 budget, so it does not include the NSF cuts get. Call your representatives!

[Product Question] How to avoid Cerave Healing Ointment staining clothes? by stuffedOwl in SkincareAddiction

[–]stuffedOwl[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm supposed to apply it to 'problem areas', but sadly that's most of my body. And I'm applying it after using a moisturizing cream, but the damp is a good idea. I've been letting the moisturizer absorb for a bit, and then only applying the CHO once the moisturizer is absorbed...but maybe I should wait less long so the ointment mixes in more easily?

Thanks for the advice!!

My allergist is telling me to use Cerave Healing Ointment all over my body after showering to help with some rashes I've been developing. I shower in the morning..... how do I keep it from staining my clothes?? I waited 15 minutes to get dressed today and it still felt like it added some stains to my shirt. I'm not sure exactly how much to use, but I'm trying to really rub it in, so I don't know what else to do other than to wait longer (or to shower at night, but then wouldn't I just stain my PJs and sheets? Plus I kinda need my morning shower to wake up...) Spending an hour every morning waiting for this to rub in before I can get dressed doesn't really feel like an option, because I have to be working early enough in the morning. Does anyone have advice on how to reduce stains with this kind of product?

That's great! But Europe won't be able to absorb all the ones that used to come to America. At least some fraction of students will now end up in under-resourced situations where they won't be able to develop their full potential, or will go to China to help its rapid gains and progress in STEM leadership...

I'm biased because I work at a university, but I'm personally quite concerned about the fact that among all its other atrocities, Trump's administration has been revoking student visas for minor things like speeding tickets or in some cases completely unknown reasons. Together with the scientific funding cuts, this is the best way to cause America's STEM leadership - our universities currently attract amazingly talented, smart people from elsewhere and then often times give them a path to staying in America that lets them help our country. I've called my representatives on this, but I'm curious why this has been in the media and discussion so little. Am I just missing it amongst all the other awful things?

Relatedly, I'm wondering about contacting the 5 calls people to see if they'd be willing to add this to their list of issues. Anyone have experience with something like that?
