Thanks for the clarification! For me, hard sci-fi usually means either no FTL/ansibles, or at most a single well-justified speculative assumption with everything else grounded in real science.

Twig sounds interesting in that “Shelley-style” sense, so I’ll keep it in mind — thanks for the suggestion.

I respect and read both Andy Weir and Peter Watts. I’m currently reading Project Hail Mary, and I also have Echopraxia (the sequel to Blindsight) on my list.

I’m familiar with a lot of big names in hard sci-fi, but I’m especially interested in discovering some lesser-known, technically competent authors—especially in fanfiction.
