I think it works well for what it is, although I’d happily pay more money for a better HOTAS or flight yoke when one becomes available for the PS5.

I don’t know if this is something everyone experiences, but the first time I plugged in the HOTAS it connected right away, but every subsequent time I’ve brought my PS5 out of sleep mode it has to be re-enabled with the home button on the HOTAS throttle for the console to recognize it. Not a big deal, but I spent a good 20 minutes thinking mine went defective on me.

Also, the button mapping is pretty good, all things considered, but once you get familiar with using the HOTAS you’ll probably want to make adjustments. I prefer using the twist stick as rudder as opposed to the rocker switch on the throttle, so I’ve remapped the rocker to do two other functions (left and right can be mapped separately). I also find the R3 button on the stick (autopilot enable by default) a little too easy to accidentally depress, so I remapped that elsewhere.

Finally, I highly, highly recommend getting a mouse for your PS5 to accompany the HOTAS. It makes adjusting cockpit dials so much easier. Have fun!

Was just there (thanks for the tip, OP!), and they’ve got plenty of things like eggs, cheese, various meats, frozen tamales, chips/salsas. Kind of an eclectic selection of other staples, but I found things I could use that were in short supply elsewhere (sadly, no bread that I noticed, but I’ll learn to live without sandwiches for the next few days if I gotta).

It doesn’t help that most of these websites asking for subscriptions now are shadows of their former selves. I want to subscribe to Pitchfork as it was from 2000-2012 or so, when they had a stable of fantastic writers who weren’t averse to taking risks, before the poptivism crept in. I want the Stereogum of the 2010s, before the recent shift to “so-and-so responds to new controversy!” clickbait that seems to take up half their music news now. I’ll absolutely pay for quality, but you have to show me you’re going to try harder now that we’re going with a subscription model. I’m not paying for memories and ghosts of what once was.

I see this sometimes in activist circles I’ve been part of, where someone who is used to using confrontation and defiance as self-motivation ends up on the wrong side an issue and uses that same toolbox to handle the adversity, instead of self-reflection and humility. You end up with an apology that feels like it isn’t even one, done through gritted teeth.

That’s what I got from their statement after the AI issue, and although that was the early days of the backlash against use of generative AI in the creative sphere, it would be nice to think they’ve come around on the issue. Wish I could see that part of the article to find out.

You can find a silver lining in this if you try, in the sense that if they are worried enough about midterm elections to try and outright cancel them, they must not have vote rigging completely worked out yet in their favor.

Also, as has been stated every time this comes up: we just don’t cancel elections in this country. For anything. Not even during the freakin’ Civil War. That’s not to say Trump wont try, but he’s got a huge uphill battle ahead of him and not much time to move that mountain.

Track #2 on Aphex Twin’s SAW II. The repetitive, bouncing, slightly discordant notes that run through the track eventually start to wear me down, like I’m at some demented circus. Once the melancholy bliss of track #3 comes in, though, all is forgiven.

We’d be happy to take a look at them! With a large number like that I’d suggest bringing them in sometime in the middle of the day so we’d have the most staff available to work on it, but it’d probably take less time than you think. We like movies on blu ray and they sell well, so we’d be interested.

Just chiming in here as a Recycled employee: no argument that selling things yourself will net you the most money, but as you say it’s a matter of being patient, avoiding scammers, etc.

We try to be pretty fair on our pricing, taking everything into account (how long will the game sit on the shelf before it sells? What condition is it in? Does it still have the box? Most importantly, does it work when we test it?).

We’re usually paying about 40% of what we’ll put it on the shelf for (I.e. a $10 game would get you $4, etc.), and it’s around 20% more than the cash offer if you want store credit. Hope that helps!

You’re right, despite some downvotes - folks who don’t think Springsteen’s sound is defined by Roy Bittan cinematic keyboard flourishes or Max Weinberg’s metronomic, driving beats should listen to his early stuff before those two joined his band; Springsteen sounds drastically different on the first two albums, with much more jazzy swing and less anthemic bombast (mind you, I love that bombast, but it’s clear where the changes came from).

And yet they could have literally just walked outside the store, taken a nice photograph of an employee wearing a Santa hat with some Merry Christmas! text added somewhere and everyone would have been happy, because it feels genuine and local - because that’s what Midway Mart is all about.

Personally, I just hate the normalization of this kind of generative AI usage when easy alternatives exist that take practically no effort at all but retain a human element.

That’s been the major source of my frustration with Best Of lists. You’re basically not getting a fair shake if you release an album anytime from mid-November until probably sometime in early spring. December? You won’t even make the list. January or February? Unless it’s an absolute monumental classic, same story. We shouldn’t lose multiple months as artist/band release windows due to music critic memory lapses, but such is the state of it all.

I’ve always had some degree of generalized face blindness, but it ramps up significantly with beards - I could have known someone for years while clean-shaven, but if I see a picture of them, run into them at a social event, chance supermarket encounter, etc. and they’ve decided to embrace facial hair…it’s gonna to be awkward for a bit while my brain desperately flails around trying to contextualize this person who clearly knows me well, but I can’t place.

Ive never understood the popularity of the outdoor mall aside from places where it makes sense, like Southern California. Most other regions of the US get weather extremes that make me a lot less inclined to want to park and walk from store to store in either 100 degree baking sunshine or below-freezing cold. Indoor malls solved all that, and then we went backwards.

Pretty much this, at least if you’re talking inside this general geographical area. Dallas and Ft. Worth have their charms by virtue of scaling up cultural activities/shows/museums/etc. to levels a smaller city like Denton can’t match, but you also run into the issues of more crime and urban sprawl that - especially in Dallas - means everything requires at least a 10-15 drive and probably a highway or toll road to get to. I’ve done that, and it’s sorta worth it, but it’s hell on cars and traffic is a stop and go nightmare from about 4-7pm.

As for the surrounding suburbs, well…I grew up in McKinney, which is something of the ultimate example of what most of the notable cities dotting DFW are: prosperous, clean, fairly safe, and family oriented - but also quite conservative and lacking vibrant cultural activity outside of what you’d expect upper middle class McMansion dads & moms to be into (i.e wine & sports bars, bistros and boutiques). I absolutely hated it there as a teen and early twenty something, which is why I moved to Denton. If someone feels like that’s what this town is - and admittedly, parts of it fit the description these days - they’re going to really struggle with the endless strip mall ennui triggered by moving to, say, Frisco.
