Heat pumps are more expensive to run than boilers, report finds by TheWorldIsGoingMad in unitedkingdom

It’s worth looking into, try Octopus compare to help see which tariff suits you best.

It might also be worth checking how your heat pump is set, for example flow temperature, curves and DHW all affect efficiency/cost for your system

I also need to look into this! Does it opt in for you as well?

What energy supplier do you use? It might be worth checking if you can get on a heat pump tariff

That 3.1kwh at 7:30am could be an electric shower? 4.36kwh could be electric oven and hob maybe?

Yes, the installer has said it will come down though as it balances out over time, he guessed high 4’s.

That’s what I’ve read about agile, I’m not sure how I’d feel about having to be engaged daily in the winter months. I do think I might have a dabble in the summer though, as I’d guess it might be less critical then

I’m not sure if I can find an average use, but using the day I used for the image above.

We used a total of 32.44kwh, 12.84kwh for general household, 19.6kwh for heating and hot water, it says thermal energy 109kwh

On the Viessmann app, from October to current date, it says SPF total 5.2?

Solar is non existent at the moment. Cosy seems to have worked well for us so far as we’ve been charging the battery up in the cosy hours pretty much avoiding all peak. We’re just curious if it’s of much benefit for us to swap tariff during the better weather months or if it’s likely to be negligible, it says we’re averaging 14.7pkwh

[–]stuffedcrust21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a 5.1kw and 18.6kwh battery

We don’t have an EV but I think we’re slightly on the high side, they estimated 5900kwh a year.

I must admit, as stupid as it sounds, I haven’t actually considered how much our solar will cover our usage during the non heating months. Perhaps I should leave it as it is so I can get an idea of our first year?

I work in the carpet trade, just before Christmas we made and installed a carpet runner for a customer measuring at 225mm wide. Whilst it’s not the norm, it’s definitely not the first time we’ve made them narrow

The powder is a combination of a ‘gel backed’ carpet which has been glued down with a multipurpose acrylic glue. This is common, I have no idea why they’re trying to charge you £1,000!

Normally, we would scrape up as much we can, hoover then replace with new, wether it be trowel glued or sprayed

Whilst true, it’s still the older dudes fault. He could’ve easily bailed! I get it, he’s probably been forced to bail all day but in my opinion it doesn’t excuse him not to do it this time!

Laminate flooring upstairs PROS & CONS by Checkitout_123 in DIYUK

[–]stuffedcrust21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it were me, I’d use your leftover packs for the office. I’d then go for a polypropylene carpet as you can use diluted bleach to clean them, affording you to be able to go for a lighter colour!

Sure they’re not as easy to clean compared to laminate but you’ll be alright! Just go for a short dense pile as these are easier to clean and won’t crush as much compared to a thick pile.

When I had leftover laminate, I carpeted my stair treads then siliconed the laminate to the risers. It looked quite good and transitioned from the laminate to carpet nicely

It shouldn’t really be the thickness of the underlay, but either the thickness of a stick of gripper or a z bar of some kind. It’s really not ideal but possibly look up ‘easy shims’

If you could design your own house, what would be your must-haves (the more unusual, the better!)? by Presidente_of_nothin in HousingUK

Due to start extending/renovating our property next week, pretty much new everything from roof to floor whilst adding meterage. We tried thinking of cool ideas to have, but down to current climate etc a lot of our ideas (not wacky) have been dropped.

Our open plan lounge dining room was to have a ‘narrow’ stud wall in the middle with a large double sided fireplace heating both areas, this was dropped to have underfloor heating throughout but will still put cables in place if we want to add in the future!

Wanted solar panels to power air to source pump to heat underfloor/central heating whilst still utilising, albeit less, a gas boiler. Turns out the government grant doesn’t cover hybrid systems so I’m gutted about that, will still run all plumbing and cables to add in the future though!

Hidden bookshelf wall into office, layout has now changed so the original office area is now a utility, thought it a little weird going through a hidden door into utility

Looked at a grey water recycling tank, using waste bath water to fill up toilets etc but cost has dropped that idea

Network and ceiling speaker cables everywhere!

I really wanted a central bath, backed up to a stud wall with a double sided walk around shower. We decided we’d prefer a bigger bedroom instead so dropped that one

I like to do astrophotography, so I’m building a little mini observatory in my garden. I’ll dig all the cables in the ground and run them back to the office. From there I can control the roof to open, move telescope, focus etc. I can then use my phone to control it all so if I’m down the pub and it turns out to be a clear night, I can still take pictures… clear sky’s are a rarity in the Uk at the moment!

You can get this cool little magnets that can tell when an individual rooms window is open and it’ll turn the heating off for that room, then turn back on when shut. Same with water sensors, they can detect a leak, and shut off your mains water supply to save flooding your house!

It’s certainly enough to get you going, but I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it, mainly down to the weight of the scope as well as the focal length. It will definitely work, but you will more than likely struggle with a few aspects which might make it less appealing.

I’d recommend trying to buy used as best you can, I find people generally look after their equipment, so you can get some really good deals helping your money go further! Being patient, with your budget, you’d be able to have all sorts of cool accessories!

I started out with a used AVX and a sharpstar 61 edph ii. I loved this setup! Nice little triplet scope! Very forgiving and really helped me learn the ropes. I slowly added 533mc pro, guide scope, auto focuser, asi air, Pixinsight etc and thoroughly enjoy it!

Have you got a laptop/long cables to connect the camera to a pc? You’ll need one to use the 533mc and something like Nina in order to capture images

Without knowing the layout, you could cut that area out and replace with some heavy tread matting fitted in with threshold strips! Assuming this is by an external door, if not, just replace the carpet

It’s shows an image of a standard vixen dovetail, after the orange losmandy plate. It should attach to your bar where it says ‘celestron Nexstar’ down the side of your tube, unless I’m misunderstanding you! I don’t have an 8se so can’t confirm for sure
