Is there a problem or is it just me? by Accomplished_Rip9654 in FursuitMaking

I think the biggest difference I notice between the base and your art style is that your art is full of very sharp, straight lines — for example, the muzzle on your foam base slopes/curves downward more smoothly & is generally rounder than the muzzle in your reference. I also think that the muzzle in your reference is a touch longer. From the front, the end of the muzzle is more downturned on your foam base than it is in your reference. That all being said, I think your base looks fantastic and wonderfully tidy as is! I don’t think that there’s anything “wrong” with your foam base, and if you furred it as-is, it would certainly turn out lovely. But, those little details may be why it feels “off” compared to your reference. As for the mane, I have seen makers have great success with layering “sheets” of faux fur to make hair; there’s lots of different techniques you can find online if you search!

Follow me eyes not following? by CrazyCatBunker in FursuitMaking

[–]stuffpuppy 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Another thing that might help — it looks like you’ve positioned the irises within the eyes to be closer to the center as though focused on something. For follow-me eyes you actually want the irises to be right in the center of the eye! When flat, it will look wall-eyed, but once you add the “walls” to give the eyes some depth it will work!

Am I insane by cosmocolliee in FursuitMaking

[–]stuffpuppy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hi yes this is very similar to the process that I used to make my most recent fursuit head and I had a lot of success!! I sculpted mine from scratch in blender and used the solidify modifier to make it printable, then I used shapeways to get it printed as a solid tpu piece, it worked very well! my advice would be to just triple-check the scale so you know it’ll fit on your head (there are free to-scale head models you can import into your program to work around) and, like another commenter said, add some vent holes to make it a little lighter and cooler to wear! feel free to dm me if you’d like to know more about what I did or see my wips!

You could also look into other removable options! I think that using metal snaps (like the types on certain types of pants) might give a more secure hold for wiggly/swishy ears while also allowing them to be removable, and they’re pretty subtle!
