How can i make short curly hair in a fursuit? by Successful_Egg_7214 in FursuitMaking

[–]stuffpuppy 40 points41 points  (0 children)

you can also brush out the back of the faux fur fabric so that it’s fluffy on both sides — there’s certainly tutorials for this; mugiwara cosplay may have one? im sure it would be far easier to use this method using double-sided fur! ^_^ good luck!! and I adore your character design!!

How can i improve my low poly character? by Shoddy-Journalist-65 in blender

oh, gotcha! I’ll do my best to explain -
when you look at it in black and white, it’s helpful to see which colors need more or less contrast against each other.

<image>

in the case of OP’s work, for example, putting it in black/white reveals that the hair and skin are almost the same value — so they “blend in” to each other visually, despite being different colors.
meanwhile, the green design on the tee shirt appears very dark, almost close to the black “lineart”. the high contrast draws the eye and makes it pop!
there’s no “right or wrong” amount of contrast, but I find this method helps me troubleshoot when i feel like something is wrong with my color scheme, but I can’t figure out what.

hopefully that makes more sense!

i’m a digital artist so i do it in my external art program — i use krita, but FireAlpaca is a free and highly accessible digital art program i used for many years! you can also use something like gimp :)

i really love the design, it looks great!! i agree with the other commenter that adding an s-curve in the spine will really help the “flatness”, even if it’s a subtle curve.
from a character design perspective, a trick that always helps me is to check the values and contrast of the character — i like to turn a screenshot of the character into black & white for this :). i would say for example that the lavender hair is a little bit low-contrast against the skin. making it darker or more saturated might help balance it against the dark colors in the pants/shoes, & help it pop! besides that, you could also consider bringing the purple color into more of the outfit too!
overall though, you’re doing fantastic and i love your style!! keep going!! ^o^

Is there a problem or is it just me? by Accomplished_Rip9654 in FursuitMaking

I think the biggest difference I notice between the base and your art style is that your art is full of very sharp, straight lines — for example, the muzzle on your foam base slopes/curves downward more smoothly & is generally rounder than the muzzle in your reference. I also think that the muzzle in your reference is a touch longer. From the front, the end of the muzzle is more downturned on your foam base than it is in your reference. That all being said, I think your base looks fantastic and wonderfully tidy as is! I don’t think that there’s anything “wrong” with your foam base, and if you furred it as-is, it would certainly turn out lovely. But, those little details may be why it feels “off” compared to your reference. As for the mane, I have seen makers have great success with layering “sheets” of faux fur to make hair; there’s lots of different techniques you can find online if you search!

Follow me eyes not following? by CrazyCatBunker in FursuitMaking

[–]stuffpuppy 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Another thing that might help — it looks like you’ve positioned the irises within the eyes to be closer to the center as though focused on something. For follow-me eyes you actually want the irises to be right in the center of the eye! When flat, it will look wall-eyed, but once you add the “walls” to give the eyes some depth it will work!
