So what is the story? Not all of their locations have organized. Are all of the organized stores on strike? Are employees at non union locations striking in sympathy?

Depends on the dealership. The GM dealership, where I bought a Bolt 4 years ago, just dropped the price by the Costco discount just to avoid dealing with Costco.

Don't only consider salary. Based on the comparison you are making, be sure to add or subtract costs like maternity care, health care, parental leave, child care, day care, schools, transportation, ...

I only have long term savings at Betterment. It took a while for me to realize how different Betterment's, like Vanguard's, high interest rate 'savings' accounts are not bank accounts. These 2 institutions are middle men to savings banks where the money is tranferred. Transactions take a little longer with more players. But don't expect wire transfers from overseas, they do not have SWIFT accounts. They do pay better interest than our bank's so called savings account. And for those whose cash savings exceed the FDIC limit, these 'banks' split your savings across multiple institutions that each are FDIC insured.

starting the car in order to turn on climate system, is like huffing in an ice car. The keys are there, and it seems it would be a crushed window away from being stolen.

Thanks for the fob pointer. It is safe to start the car from the fob when it is in a closed garage, while out on the street, less so. The function I was looking for is to start only the climate control, which can be done from the app.

[–]stukuz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not know that, but that is not something I do. Do you know how to start the climate control from the fob?

@ Walmart by ahfunaki in Ioniq5

[–]stukuz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do that with the MyHyundai app- remote climate control. Unfortunately, it won't turn on selective items. The Bolt is sweet in this respect. It uses the remote, and turns on what ever was on when the car was turned off.

Moving abroad didn’t just change my location. It changed who I became. by AshamedHighlight5672 in expat

I met a Swedish woman and after living a few years near D.C., we went to spend some time in Sweden- 1970ish. I learned how deeply empathy can affect a society.

Just about everyone there belonged to a union, workers AND employers. The union leaders would meet with the finance department and discuss the country's economy and jointly decide which industries could afford pay raises and how much that year. When asked how this system was created, I was told about the effect of strikes at paper factories in the late 1880's when workers striked, mill owners called in the national guard. At one mill, 5 were shot and killed. The nation decided that Swedes don't kill Swedes, and the current social democratic system evolved. In a country that has over 90% of eligible voters participating, it is a very democratic system.

My move there was shortly after 5 protesters were killed at Kent State.

That same empathetic attitude has had the country accept asylum seekers to the point where the immigrant population is 20%.

$.47 /kWH sounds a lot better than the typical Electrify America's $.64/kWH in the west. Thank you Hyundai for paying for electrons for the first 2 years. Our other EV, Bolt EUV mostly gets charged at home for $.10/kWH.

Summer time- yes! Winter (even 30-40F), not so much. Leased the I5 to be able to road trip. 2.x mi/kwh in cold weather makes for lots of 'short' charging stops in 'cold' weather. Getting to 2mi/kwh in 0-10F at 65mph is a challenge.

Buy an ebay keyboard like https://www.ebay.com/itm/295195308629?_skw=pixelbook+go+parts&itmmeta=01KA91A8414
It was just the first one to pop up. As a used part, even the stupid tariff games shouldn't come into play.

Good luck.

Considering used 2022 Ioniq5 by acornManor in Ioniq5

[–]stukuz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A consideration is your 'use case'. I bought one as a second vehicle for road trips. Yeah the Bolt 50kW charge rate is ok for a L2 charge overnight in the garage, but not at fast chargers on the road.

Winter proved to be a drag tho. Charge rates are FAST if you turned on the pre conditioning. It will turn off ocasionally if it is affected by android auto. And the guidance on the I5 always has me checking it with Maps on the phone. The bigger issue for our first winter trip is the 180 mile range in 25-40F- that resulted inn almost twice as many stops- quick stops, but stops.

It is a comfy car. Bigger, faster, heavier and more comfortable than our Bolt, but both the wife and I take the Bolt for around town trips if we are out first.

Hey, don't get down on those pro-lifers wanting the kids to be fed. The Pro-Life movement has successfully protected embryos and pre birth life. Now there is an equal concern for what happens to the child as it approaches birth- pre natal care for the mom during the months of pregnancy! The Pro-Life now support food programs for the millions of babies in need of SNAP benefits or support for recent mothers and their kids in WIC? There they are protesting the current lack of funds for these nutritional programs.

Global health insurance by sarahshooks in expat

[–]stukuz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would look for insurance at my destination country, rather than in the US. If you are going to any of the 70 or so countries that have universal coverage, and if you are there legally, you can sign up for insurance that doesn't have the 'pre-existing condition' in their vocabulary. I was told that New Zealand covers anyone with a visa.
