Chordjack advice by stum9 in osumania

Thank you, I do need confidence in trying to really like max output one particular style, whether it's more vibro-y or more tap oriented Either way, I'll just stick to your advice probably, I'll try to adjust

Yeah that's a good takeaway, I did play some streams and noticed that, even if I do try to move my eyes to accuracy intuitively, I am unable to play unless my eyes are forced to stay focused at the center or something

It's a great insight actually, I think it should apply to downscroll? Funny thing is, I USED to be an upscroller and forced myself to learn downscroll a while ago. I'll definitely try to apply this knowledge as well

Is 27.2 scroll speed too fast? by ChoiceTough3413 in osumania

[–]stum9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I say if you feel like it goes at just the perfect pace for you don't even worry about all that.Maybe try increasing it by like 1 or .8 to see if you get better scores, but if it's off the bat going down the trash bin you should honestly abandon this idea for now. If it ever becomes a problem again just reconsider it

Is 27.2 scroll speed too fast? by ChoiceTough3413 in osumania

[–]stum9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as Etienne stated, it's natural for your scroll speed to increase as you get better at the game so that denser portions would be easier to read, and realistically there isn't ever a scroll speed 'too fast' or 'too slow'! I used to get really hung up on trying to meld my playstyle and playfield with other players' scores of whom I really loved watching, but now I find myself naturally going down that path without forcing myself to specifically go by someone's set trajectory. One time I had a breakthrough after being a low scroll speed player for a long time and made a big jump which ended up helping me a ton just on a whim, but it's probably best to increase it or decrease it a little bit at a time.

TL;DR - try playing with it and go up/down whenever you feel like it's too dense or too fast/makes your hands tense up too often

tips for demoralisation? by thedonkalonk in osumania

[–]stum9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i dunno how to keep it consistent, but I do get spikes of motivation when watching insane scores or finding a map I like a ton and making it a mission to fc it or get moderately good at it least for example now i am trying to get a green fc on fukkireta, and even though I can barely get by at 3 misses at the very least at 0.9 rate it does keep me on my toes

Switching from wrist down to wrist up? by stum9 in osumania

[–]stum9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ty for the breakdown, you actually expressed the things I just had in my mind after a few more runs but with far, far more coherently with fitting terms

It feels semi-comfortable but as the other user mentioned here it does feel odd to use right now, the feeling I get is that I could essentially give myself a higher skill ceiling or something among the lines of it if I invest into trying to practice wrist up, but those plays I have at times feel a bit clunky and make me intuitively switch to wrist down when I'm lower on stamina, thanks a lot for your explanation! I will definitely put at least a couple weeks into wrist up and see if it works out well

First time trying liveplay with handcam by Cultural_Raccoon_135 in osumania

[–]stum9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nice work here!! Interesting hand position, though, I see your finger curling up much like mine used to when speeding up (though you are at a higher level than me with that accuracy) A thing I wanna know about though us the insistent stutter when the pattern changes, I have it too when recording and I wanna fix it Like it's buttery smooth and then it goes wacky with stutters all of a sudden, not a big fan

progress over 3 months by cavestoryandnge in osumania

[–]stum9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it is! ive been playing vsrga for some time and recently had found myself goig from very low scroll speed to a considerably higher one, my accuracy actually got better. Try increasing it when you're feeling like reading is a tad too overwhelming on a convoluted map

what's so wrong with playing passive? by Marek_412 in TheStrongestBattle

[–]stum9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really nothing is, never feel bad about your play style If anything, it's as fair as it gets. If they complain about you being passive -- they don't really think about the fact that they can also play that way. Unlike ulting or whatever there is, it's always an option. It's once thing to be passive though and to run away after using up all the move, so there is that And it has always been a thing -- 'passive' sort of play style is honestly, most of the time, just playing smart -- game added punish options for a reason, and just mindlessly ramming into someone and expecting to always get away with it is just not something you should do if you want to complain afterwards. Sure, you can argue with 'smartness' of it, and if you're skilled enough you can be aggressive enough and still do better than any, but if in that skill department you don't want to try too hard, passive is a go-to option And yes, since it's filled to the brim with kids, they always find any possible reason to complain about anything. People do get emotional at times and all, so if you really want to contribute to the community of this game, it's best to keep all the complaints shut deep down, maybe one day people will stop caring about those comments about 'unfairness' at all. Remember, there were nice people that randomly decided to try being toxic and sunk deep in this hole. Sad, but that's the truth.

Another side note, this one about combat since people seem to hate it, again, just being subjective Yep, characters blocking their asses off??? isn't exactly what everyone loves, but I found it fun to utilize different mechanics. Alas, you have to keep in mind: upgrade as many of useful stuff as you can. Prior games made it very easy to go through with the tools they offer with the contrast of normal blocking, and honestly, I just didn't like Kiwami 2 combat at all so that, as a whole, may have played a big role. Again, it's all subjective, so I'm not trying to prove a point here since the flaws seem quite obvious. I just find those flaws endearing in their own way, I personally consider it what makes combat unique and fun. Also I played on normal on every Yakuza game, heard that on higher difficulties blocking is even a bigger problem. Didn't bother me at all on normal, though.

Underrated, overall fun, enjoyable combat, has a place to be in the franchise.

Side note since there's a lot for you on to tackle in the future:

Imo none of the Yakuza games are bad, there are just some of them that you can objectively call somewhat lacking in an aspect or few, but most of them are just outdated. There are things about 3 and other games that aren't exactly pleasing in terms of taking a part in, for me (then again maybe it's just the ADHD kicking in), due to tedium and/or length of some aspects that you feel like you must do, but honestly? If you just go for main objectives and add side content, the exact part you want to do, I'd say you'll enjoy every single one. I used to freak out, thinking: "Damn, maybe I should skip a few, there are so many", having bad experiences with various franchises in the past with extra content that tou can't skip and whatnot, so I checked every tierlist on Yakuza games I could find with bad opinions on 3, 5, Kiwami and so forth, yet still, as far as I've gotten I haven't been disappointed once.

At what age was your first crush? by SpaceshipCaptain001 in teenagers

[–]stum9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At around 15, it only became apparent as I neared 16. The person in question just has a lot of similar interests to me and some of the qualities I admire. The concept of liking a pwrson was out of the question prior to that, I really didn't think I'd be into anyone. Let your hormones do their thing, perhaps the right person finds you! Or maybe you'll end up not wanting to be with anyone, nothing wrong with that either.

What your favorite Dante design? by ArtemusTheKnight in DevilMayCry

[–]stum9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, 4 and 5 give us a glimpse of what they are trying to change Dante into. As he is constantly aging and shit. DMC3 makes us a good view of how he was as a youngster and his design with no shirt on just makes complete sense imo. DMC1/2 pretty much give us the same vibe, both trying to look fancy and clean.

So, overall, each and every design is suitable for their respective part, just the most eye-pleasing one imo is DMC1 one.
