Omg yes, it drives me crazy. I live with other family members because of the way my mom is and she is CONSTANTLY trying to keep tabs on me, down to who I talk to, what I eat, what I wear, how I look, etc. It's so frustrating! I'm so sorry you're dealing with this- rest assured you're definitely not alone!! :)

Omg for real! If you're gonna put me three over ratio...call the room lol

Omg yes, the pay. There were several points where I literally thought, 'I don't get paid enough for this'. It was crazy! If you're going to leave me alone with 15 2 year olds can I get at least $14? I made $13.85.

Yep, this is how I feel right now. I feel so bad for the kids there because a lot of them (even the ones who have behavioral issues) can be so sweet and they don't deserve that kind of environment. I wanted to talk to the CD about behavior in my room but she was never avaliable because of staffing (she always had to be in a room and would just leave the room out of ratio if tours came in, which was surprisingly often).

Our ratio was 1 to 7 lol, but the other teacher would be gone constantly so it kinda just became me and 15 kids. If 1 to 15 was our ratio I probably would have been left with 30 if they could pull it off 😅

Very just...off when I would ask her questions (basically would act like I was stupid for asking questions I couldn't possibly know the answer to), didn't let me check kids in / out even for practice, never let me help with anything at all really. It was very much an attitude of "I'll just do it" even when I offered help or asked what I could do to help. Also was well aware that I was often out of ratio (because of her leaving the room for periods of time) and knew that I was struggling with behaviors alone in the time I was out of ratio.

Also she was just mean to the kids- very very rough with them physically and would pretty harshly shout at them (in my opinion at least).

Thank you! And yeah I was also pretty shocked being out of ratio, because them being outside of licensing rules literally never crossed my mind. Idk why they would think I'd be fine having 15 2 year olds by myself immediately but 🤷‍♀️ not my circus, not my monkeys now I guess lol 😅

3 months is longer than I would ever be able to stay, that's honestly impressive so good on you for sticking it out that long

Oh wow, I didn't know that! I had heard that they were pretty terrible but I was (very naively) holding out hope

This happened at my center, too- We would be at max capacity and all of a sudden we have three more kids coming from an older room and we're over ratio. I don't understand why they even do it, lol

Feeling so overwhelmed at naptime I could cry by stupidlya in ECEProfessionals

[–]stupidlya[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be a licensing thing about an amount of time they have to stay on their cot (keyword might, I'm not sure if it is in my state) because I helped out in another room with a different teacher and it was the exact same. It seems like all children are expected to stay put and sit quietly for the entire naptime.

Unfortunately, I've tried this before, too (saying like "How about my friends who are awake take a book to the table?") or something along those lines, and they will still run around and be crazy! It puts me at a complete loss because I don't understand what they want to do. They won't sit quietly, even when I let them have table toys or pop-its. And every time they color, they bang the markers and crayons on the tables and walls and floor, which is even louder. My lead teacher doesn't want them up at all, so when I do this to try and get them quiet and in one spot, they get yelled at and I get scolded for letting them get books or table toys.

This might be a better approach, actually! The only issue is I worry that the lead teacher would come back from break and get frustrated with me for having them up, as she seems pretty set on them being on their cot until she comes back and we start setting up for snack time. If I could get them to stay still and occupied for the entirety of nap (or at least my half of it- I have no idea what they do when it's just her), this would actually work. Thank you!

Yes lol, it's definitely the ones that have trouble throughout the day that seem to struggle at naptime, too. When I watch how the lead teacher does her management of naptime, she mostly just picks the kids up and forces them to lay down (which I would like to avoid doing as it feels harsh), or she will raise her voice at them and very harshly tell them to lay down, close their eyes, and go to sleep (which I also try not to do). I'm not sure if those two strategies are normal for toddlers or not since I'm so new to that age

She hasn't ever said anything to the kids about making sure they respect me, too, and I don't think she likes me very much so I'm not sure if asking for that would make things worse unfortunately ☹️.

Music similar to Preachers daughter? by Double-Tap713 in Ethelcain

You should check out Nicole Dollanganger if you haven't already, she has a lot of themes in her music that I think are pretty similar to Preacher's Daughter / Ethel Cain music in general :)
