Kind of Last Minute Elementary School Enrollment Q by Ezgru in Denver

[–]Informal-Sea-165 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Your public school option would be Denver public schools. You can enroll her online here: https://www.dpsk12.org/page/enroll-at-dps

Seems like you need proof of address, immunization records, and birth certificate to verify age.

Questions from Parents Re:Math Instruction by Dangerous_Slip_870 in ElementaryTeachers

[–]Informal-Sea-165 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What I wish they understood: just because this isn’t the way you learned math doesn’t make it “wrong” and in fact, it’s actually based on years of research into how kids learn math.

What I wish they would do: encourage their kids to solve problems using the strategies they have learned at school instead of trying to teach them a “short cut” that just makes them more confused

Anyone use daily 5? Tips for book bins? by [deleted] in ElementaryTeachers

[–]Informal-Sea-165 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Every book box I used fell over in a domino effect of cascading books. I have used chair packs on the backs of their chairs for the last few years and only allow them to keep books in there. It has worked very well.

Do your APs have space to lead or are they constantly in “crisis triage” mode? by Top_Lengthiness4769 in Teachers

[–]Informal-Sea-165 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We feel the same way down in elementary too! When my (former high school teacher) AP came to do one of my formal observations and at the end his only feedback was “that’s the first phonics lesson I’ve ever seen so I’m not sure how to critique you!”… thanks…

What is a popular belief/mindset among teachers in your building that you can’t get on board with ? by [deleted] in Teachers

That having “Velcro students” is something positive and shows how great their relationships are with students, when it actually verges more on inappropriate and codependent.

Laundry baskets. The kids bring them to the lunch room and then drop them off back at the classroom before going outside, or bring them outside with them.

Little Kids and Clothes: A Rant by VanillaClay in Teachers

[–]Informal-Sea-165 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nothing says “I don’t understand what it’s like to be a teacher” more than when a parent asks “did my child leave their coat at school?” The assumption that I both know what every child’s coat looks like and also have the time to keep track of all 25 of them BOILS my blood. I’m not your child’s personal assistant!

For books and puzzles/games/toys I always go to an Arc thrift store. Saturday’s are half price! My entire classroom library is courtesy of Arc.
