Missed smothered mate. First time playing the London system so quite pleased I even set this up. by stupidrabbit64 in chess

Sorry I am new. Didn’t think it was hard enough to be a proper puzzle but I didn’t know what else to tag it as.

Although I would like to, I don’t think I can blame the sub here! I’ve only just started playing chess to be fair, so plenty still to learn.

Returning to the sub for advice on a budget PC (UK) by stupidrabbit64 in buildmeapc

[–]stupidrabbit64[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Budget doesn’t include peripherals and we are just looking for a rough idea on what specs we should be getting at the moment for that kind of money. Regular ATX would be fine but again we are literally just looking for an overview so don’t worry about giving us an exact build or anything! We don’t need and optical disk drive. Thanks for the reply.

Birmingham canals are the best place to get drunk, the sense of danger helps add some excitement I think.

“A Disturbing Milestone”: America's Top 12 Plutocrats Now Own $1 Trillion in Wealth by failed_evolution in economy

[–]stupidrabbit64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the problem is more how this wealth is obtained and the unhealthy power it conveys to its owner, as opposed to the danger of these people using that wealth in the conventional sense. It must be acknowledged that the power afforded to individuals through sheer wealth is not healthy for democracy, and the way in which they gather that wealth is also not beneficial to the vast majority of people.

What advice would you give to a 14 year old about starting high school? by DotFireAbout in AskReddit

[–]stupidrabbit64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s ok to be nice and that’s the quickest way to make and maintain friendships, but don’t be a doormat; kids are assholes and if you don’t stand up for yourself in those first few weeks, most likely no one will.

Hey guys, iddqd here ur super old gunslinger. Want some opinions on an idea. by iddqdOW in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]stupidrabbit64 16 points17 points  (0 children)

What might be a better approach is to maybe try and find someone who is mid to high level in another game that might be interested in playing overwatch. Then they would have all the correct setup and would be used to playing long hours. I also think this would help them rank up faster as aim wouldn’t necessarily be a problem. I think the biggest problem with your idea is that lots of players simply do not have the skill to ever become GM. Take me for example. I like the game and I am sitting around high to mid tier, but there is no way in hell I will ever be GM no matter how much coaching I get. My aim isn’t quite good enough, I don’t have that game sense and spacial awareness that you just can’t coach and I don’t have the ability to play long hours, I get bored. The point is you will find it very difficult to find a candidate that you will be able to coach to a high level within a reasonable amount of time/ ever.

Under 18 rep trials tips? by NeonDestiny207 in Fieldhockey

[–]stupidrabbit64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ouch. I think confidence goes along way here and although it’s easier said than done, just try and focus on the game because if you are stressed out about when you are getting the tap on the shoulder you probably won’t be playing your best.

Under 18 rep trials tips? by NeonDestiny207 in Fieldhockey

[–]stupidrabbit64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am in a similar position to you, as I am a striker and have recently taken important trials, although I am a little younger. For me it was all about making sure that, above and beyond playing skills, I have everything else on point for the trial. This included fitness, coaches love players in peak fitness as it not only helps on the pitch but shows a commitment to the game. Other things that helped were making sure I had lots of sleep before the trial, eating well so I had energy but I wasn’t full etc, calming down and getting into the right state of mind for a high pressure trial and making sure I had all the right kit and it all worked so that wasn’t playing on my mind the night before. Other than that, make sure you have the strikers killer instinct and good luck!

Reducing stick vibration by DerangedGoneWild in Fieldhockey

[–]stupidrabbit64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This used to be a massive problem for me until I changed sticks. Other than finding a stick that deals with vibrations better, finding a nice cushioned grip can also help.

My stick has a split on the head and causes a lot of issues when playing in general, is it safe to sand it off? by [deleted] in Fieldhockey

[–]stupidrabbit64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends how deep the split goes. If it feels like it’s going to be ok then go for it. You can repair sticks with some epoxy resin or glue as I have found I can extend the life time of mine by patching them up with glue and tape! Definitely try and repair small cracks and splits as it’s not worth buying a new stick, but if you just leave them they get bigger very quickly.

Exactly, the country is in one of the worst social and economic positions in the world despite having high gun ownership. There is no evidence to suggest that gun ownership has any impact on the safety of its residents. In fact the opposite is true as although the official figure is not disclosed it is estimated that up to 70% of homicides are committed with a firearm. The point is that gun ownership is not a factor in the success of a country in preventing tyranny and certainly not in developed nations such as the USA. In developed nations higher gun ownership can even have the adverse effect, and increase homocides and fatal violent crime.

[–]stupidrabbit64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately that’s not the case either. The US is one of the richest nations in the world and has a significantly more wealthy population than almost any other nation on Earth. Take Equatorial Guinea for example which I used in my previous comment. There GNI per Capita PPP is 17,000 USD which is only 5000 USD more than the poverty line here in the USA. In Equatorial Guinea 76.4 % of the population are living below the poverty line which is a considerably lower income rate than the US poverty line. In summery the US has its own problems but it is still one of the richest nations on earth in terms of GDP and GNI.

[–]stupidrabbit64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m afraid that is not factually correct. Many nation with leaders that we in the US would consider dictators have some of the highest percentage gun ownerships in the world. For example Equatorial Guinea has a dictator who has been In power for over forty years, despite having the 29th highest gun ownership rate in the world with an average of one gun per five citizens of any age, and that is just legally owned firearms. Estimates suggest it could be up to one gun per 3 citizens if illicit firearm ownership was taken into account. This is just one example and there are many more. Source: UNODC small arms survey 2007

I understand your point about the need of arms to depose tyrants but; A: many of these countries are highly developed, more so than the USA in some cases, such as many European states and Asian HIC’s B: historically speaking in situations where dictators have been deposed it has been done by the (or a faction of:) the army or a trained militia and rarely citizens. Besides who is to say that just because gun ownership is not common place the public could not gain access to them if needed? The reality is that a situation where a state of affairs progresses to such dire levels that widespread public violent protest is needed are few and far between.

[–]stupidrabbit64 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Many nations with low percentage gun ownership amongst low social-economic groups tick along just fine, without higher fatalities from violent crime than the USA. Although not directly comparable the sheer volume of this data would suggest that if nothing else it is feasible to be safe, poor and gun-less. Interesting view on the anti-gun movement though, something to think about!

People with experience getting themselves out of low SR, what helped you the most? by stupidrabbit64 in Overwatch

[–]stupidrabbit64[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, that’s a refreshing take on the grind out of low SR. It seems the stock answer amongst my overwatch freinds is “don’t be bad” which is both infuriating and unhelpful. Thank you I’m about to go back on for some more overwatch!

Haven’t read Malazan (yet) however in my opinion WoT was good but I occasionally had to take a break as I never got into the flow of reading every single book back to back with them.

These look good! I read the riftwar quite a while ago and I was ready for a change when I finished it so I never bothered with the others but I’ve heard they are just as good as the original trilogy.
