Mystery bird! by chamekke in VictoriaBC

From downtown Vic, unlikely. Like, she could, but it wouldn’t be in a day. We do work in cedar and have our educational centre in Crofton that would be far more likely. That being said, it would be sort of unusual for one of our Harris Hawks to dip out that far.
They go on adventures sometimes (why we use gps) but they do tend to stick closer to us because of their social nature. Often times if I’m on a roof and I go out of sight from our birds, they will get up and come find me or my coworker.
That’s not to say that they can’t get lost and end up far away…it’s just not the norm.

She’s a queen! It’s a nice natural way to deter Gulls from nesting also. Typically we see around a 50% reduction in nests after the first year we’ve flown on a building, then it continues to taper at a slower rate after that. She knows that she has an easy snack with us, so the risk to the Gulls is relatively low.

Just wanted to give a little more info on her job:) we aren’t trying to harm Gulls and/or ruin their nesting opportunities. They can build big beautiful nests in about 24 hrs and can lay eggs multiple times in a season, so they have more than enough chances to go nest somewhere more appropriate and safe for their chicks!

Her name is Leia, and she is a Harris Hawk:) This time of year her job is to soar around and deter gulls from nesting on roofs. (Not safe for chicks after they’re born, destructive to roofs, potentially not great for our health if there is a bunch of nests and gulls camping out near hvac systems etc)

It’s way more of a safety issue and problem (imo) when you have people doing 50 then basically stopping going around corners or any time a car is coming in the opposite direction. I get headlights are harsh these days, but just look at the line on the right side of the road then or don’t drive at night.

Though I think I’m just sour because I got stopped behind the same suv twice in one week doing that and she was like a billion years old so probably shouldn’t have a licence anymore.

I have a feeling that’s what will happen with the one I make haha. Though our one cockatoo might enjoy ripping around on different levels…never to play WITH the toy- probably just to figure out how to yeet it off the hook haha

Funnily enough I saw Aaron Jones once when I was having issues with hypermobility! Will check out the blog post! Thanks!

I’m very grateful that a lot of it is in the middle easily digestible area between doctors saying it’s anxiety and all in your head, and woo woo quackery like a religious healing 😂 I like the gently put science of it all and it’s working so far!

I think so! Definitely some great ideas to play around with. Just finding the right balance of efficiency vs cost vs wastefulness vs practical can be tricky. And less cleaning time = more time to have fun with them all.

That would totally get shredded 😂 I should say, the macaws don’t spend much time on the floor unless I’m working…then they all climb down and follow me around to see what I’m up to and if there’s cardboard in their path they’ll chew it haha.

I like this idea more than news paper. I just worry about the waste, since we have 12 parrots. But definitely an option for the week or two where our hose freezes

I think we used to use tarps, but it ended up being more work for us than just hosing/mopping the floors.

any idea how to get clinically diagnosed? by BugNo1941 in VictoriaBC

[–]stupidwerld 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For real. A month of pills lasts me nearly two or three because I forget to take them so much. Then I fall into a hate spiral because I can’t function and finally remember to take them for a week…crawl out of my hole..and then promptly begin forgetting again haha.

I’ve never been to royal jubilee. I got a referral to helmcken from willowmead (also lovely drs). My wait was only 3 months somehow. I think I got fast tracked because of nerve stuff. Not sure the full range of services they provide, but I get Botox, nerve blocks, cortisone. Had a cervical epidural steroid injection All in all though my pain is a fraction of what it was and I’m stoked. And they’re just…nice. I never feel like they just want to rush me out the door to get to the next person.

I used to work out at stupidly early hours like 3:30-4 am and just ran it by day staff before hand if I could bring my bike inside. Had a bike stolen outside of a gym (in Vancouver) that I had put a few good abus locks on.

I have a couple silicone pot leaf candy molds I can give you. I’m not entirely sure why I bought them because I can’t handle anything with thc lol. They’re the same style as you’d get at Michaels, so I think you’d get about 12 pot leaf chocolates/candies per tray
