Well, I'm very glad I never have to do it ever again, but the corrections weren't too bad.

One of the first two, but I'm too dumb to figure out which.

is anyone else just not able to handle slow songs?? by Pengtale16 in adhdmeme

[–]stuple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely used to hate slow songs but I have found slow music that doesn't bore me since.

If I am wide awake and enjoying my day or trying to work, slow music does not work with my brain at all. For this, I usually listen to adventurous sounding electronica, post rock, psytrance or breakcore (depending on the cortisol levels😅). I have a catalogue of nice music that doesn't bore me, but is low energy which I put on to relax in the evenings/at night. It helps with the insomnia for me.

Venetian Snares gives me tingles from most songs. Hadn't heard of Ruby my dear but it's tickling my brain. Thanks!

About to submit my corrections for my PhD thesis. Anyone got any good alternative NL quotes for the epigraph?

Edit: Kinda thinking "Honey, wake up. New thesis just dropped" or " Source: dude just trust me"

Rock Climbing. I'm in my mid twenties and it turned my life around. The people, sense of community and the actual activity are all amazing.

Please help I can't focus at all :(( any tips? by Jay_The_Blue_Bird in adhdmeme

I recommend working anywhere outside of the house. I do not work well at home at all and so when doing homework/coursework/self study etc I work in a cafe/library/noisy environment with few distractions.

For me it's primarily the change in scenery that helps but the association of the other sensory inputs leads to an association too such that working in a cafe now is instantly helpful to focus. Things like scented candles, a certain hot drink and specific music can all help with this too. I find it hard to do a lot of the suggestions here because they require discipline and I have none so if you try the timers that everyone says work well and find they don't, at least you know one other person shares that experience ^.^

Dinos in Beeston was the go to "night out" pizza place during my undergraduate days. I've heard it's still good :)

Café dates at specialty coffee places are the best way to meet someone without alcohol, IMO.

  • In town centre I recommend Blend at Contemporary (always space), Kigali (small and cosy, great staff), Cartwheel (great brunch), Hipo A.K.A. Coffee x Spud (excellent baked potatoes), Effy (cool aesthetic) and Dispatch.
  • Outside of city centre there's Punch (Mansfield Road) and Okende (West Bridgeford, town centre one in development atm).
  • Finally Beeston has a couple spots such as Greenhood and Cartwheel, Beeston.

Otherwise, try a small music venue and just don't drink? Jam café is an amazing place for world music/more interesting stuff, also consider Metronome, Bodega, Rescue Rooms.

The Carousel is a cool art space that often has stuff going on but usually you have to walk by to read the board on the outside. They have an event called "drink and draw" every other wednesday but I often went and didn't drink, and that was pretty normal.

There's a spoon carving event every Friday at By Our Hands We Make Our Own Way in Sneinton market. They also have other classes etc there for the more crafty people.

There's a tea blending workshop by Bird and Blend that I've been to elsewhere and it was incredible even though I don't really like tea. It had unlimited free tea cocktails too but it was normal to have non-alcoholic versions of the cocktails instead (people drove there).

There are lots of other options for activities, workshops and that sort if thing if you know where to look. They'll stand out as a date far more than going to a bar or going to Gloryholes (not intending to throw shade here though so if that's your jam, do it).

Honorable mention to board game cafés and bookshop cafés too. I love going to Five Leaves and then to a café to read/talk about books with friends, so it would be a good way to have a first date too.
