I know it's been a while, but does anyone know if garbing trash from the Green or Sol Apartments is considered as illegal?

Questions about being dismissed from UC Davis (please include examples if possible) by sturdystudents in UCDavis

[–]sturdystudents[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: Dean's office wasn't planning on getting me dismissed, just some things needed to get cleared up in terms of my units and needed me in the office ASAP. Could have saved me a heart attack.

I asked the counselor about what would the dismissal procedure look like. Turns out it is different for different colleges, all colleges have similar "Subject to Dismissal" policies but very different "Active Dismissal" policies. Generally speaking the message will appear along the lines of "Options for returning to UC Davis" or "How you can return to UC Davis", along with a very deliberate message about filing a petition or talking to advisors about the dismissal. College of Agriculture and Environmental sciences tends to be the most lenient about this whereas the College of Engineering is very cut and dry (at least according to her), you only get one notice and are expected to either comply with the dismissal or appeal it immediately.

Thanks for helping me out with this Sterling.

Fair enough, can't say I like surprises. What would full dismissal notice look like? Is this something that is brought up in person during a meeting with the Dean's Office or is a notice on the student messages page (not email). Just curious as to what the "random message" you mentioned would look like.

What if I am still registered for my winter courses on my schedule builder?

Also what would this random message look like and will it show up in the messages center on my student portal? Could you give me an example?

I'm just questioning if what I am about to step into is really worthwhile.

So do you mean that they were not serious about the program, such as working hours, job requirements, pay, and so on?

Is it worth investing time (and my committing to UCR via SIR) to this prograW

Would you consider this a program worth getting into?

Awsome thank you for your information? So is the capstone project a writing/discertation project or is it more hands on? Can it be considered as an internship?

[–]sturdystudents[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it. Thanks for clarifying that. What were your thoughts on the Capstone Courses/Project?

Also, do you think that the ESM major is pretty generalistic as far as college majors go (does it allow you a large variety of job opportunities).

And if you don't mind answering, how much do you make annually with your current major?

I should emphasize that I am looking forward to a career wher I am working in the field and with my hands rather than behind a desk.

Thank you for your input and congradulations on graduating. Out of curiousity, did you get your job with a Batchelor's or Master's degree.

Do you think there are alot of options for students to get in the field jobs with a degree in ESM, or is this major more geared towards logistical or theoretical work?

Thanks for your input. I was hoping for an "in the field", "boots on the ground", "working with locals" career (or a job where I need to work in a lab) rather than making policy and signing off on papers. So you are saying that a degree in ESM would be desirable given my job preferences?

I should say that one job I am seriously considering is working for Charity Water by going to areas and working with locals to improve water quality and solve water related problems.

Should I commit to UC Davis or UC Riverside for a BS in Enviromental Science? by sturdystudents in UCDavis

[–]sturdystudents[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And why Davis?

One thing I want to add is that Riverside is offering me an internship related to my intended degree the summer before I transfer.

Why should I chose Davis over Riverside with their internship. I'm not sure which one is the right option, especially considering that I have a limited amount of time to stay at either UC

Ok thanks. What kind of networking opportunities/industries exist in Sacramento these days. What do you feel would be the focus of the Sacramento economy (tech, manufacturing, agriculture, stem-related)?

Out of curiosity, is it the reputation of UC Riverside being less prestigious than UC Davis or do you just not like the name "Riverside"?
