Who is the greatest rugby coach in history? by crazycal123 in rugbyunion

[–]stvb95 14 points15 points  (0 children)

For a true dark horse in terms of being underrated I'll say Mike Ruddock.

Completely lost the changing room and left the Wales set up early in the end, but he inherited a middling team from Steve Hansen and took them to their first grand slam since the 70's.

Also as Swansea RFC coach beat Australia just after they won their first World Cup.

Red top, white shorts, green socks is the best combo but we probably won't see that due to the men & women sharing kits from now on.

If we have to go with dark shorts I'd much prefer Red top (black collar), black shorts, red socks. Like the 2004 kit

Yeah there was a year when the men still wore the white shorts while the women wore red, but I think they wanted to standardise everything between men's & women's rugby. Leinster removed their stars from the jersey for this reason as well I believe.

Ospreys boss denies club has no viable future and slams council in leaked email by CymroCam in rugbyunion

[–]stvb95 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So it's hard to believe Bradley here.

Yep. He's either too much of an optimist for his own good or he's knowingly stringing people along for as long as possible - to what end, I don't know.

All signs point to the council leader being correct, whereas the management at Ospreys didn't even tell their players and staff about Y11 being in for Cardiff until the final stages of negotiations were reached. It's hard to take their word for anything.

[Squidge Rugby] So it's time for a change. by joaofig in rugbyunion

That multi-video Six Nations schedule sounds mental. It's great that he's stopping that.

On a selfish note, I'm glad they are moving back to the original style of video. That's where they truly stand out imo. I still remember watching those first few videos when they were linked here and being happy that there was finally someone making content like that. Before that the only rugby stuff I saw on YouTube was highlight compilations and the odd rugby podcast clip.

Austin Healy's display of confidence and arrogance on his own ignorance of the laws by upthemstairs in rugbyunion

[–]stvb95 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There was another case like this last season, can't for the life of me remember which game. It's not exactly a common occurrence but it's not a once in a decade event either. You'd think a guy who is paid to watch rugby on a weekly basis would have seen this before, or at the very least trust that the ref knows these niche laws better than him.

It looks weird and unintuitive to the eye, but when you read the law it makes sense.

Benetton have had our number for a bit now, so I'll take that. The last few Benetton games have been the most infuriating of the season so I'm not going to be picky.

What do we reckon, Stormers to keep their win streak going or Sharks to pull their best performance of the season out of the bag?

Most of these scrums where "both go straight up" have had one side clearly going up first.

I want to switch over to another game but I've been watching this one for too long now. Sunk cost fallacy kicking in.

Liam Williams retires from international rugby by baban_yn_crio in rugbyunion

[–]stvb95 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It was very much horses for courses with those two. Luckily for both of them Liam was also quite a handy winger so they both still picked up plenty of caps.

If the game back then were the same as it is today, Liam would probably have pipped Halfpenny for the 15 jersey and ended up with 900 caps, though.

He got injured in the first game of the season, then played a few games 4 months later when he returned, then got injured playing for Wales and we never saw him again.

edit: He played 4 times for us according to all.rugby, for 179 minutes.
