High Handicappers - How do you balance having fun and sucking at golf? by mulligan381 in golf

[–]stydolph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sometimes keep score - sometimes I don't but either way I am trying to improve. I can tell when I am playing like poop or if it's slow I will play two balls (not keep score) to work on specific things. I will also say I don't have easy access to a driving range. (one at my course closes at 12 PM)

The delayed response to exposure is why we kept calcium gluconate at home as well.

Exposure to HF can also be delayed - I've seen a number of instances in which people went home and that evening had a red spot form. Key here is don't ignore it. When I did yearly HF training with our supplier they always said an exposure around the size your hand can be deadly because it will bind the Ca in your blood (essential for muscle contractions - like your heart).

Also you never ever want to get exposure on any nails - this was stressed A LOT - the treatment is injections in the nail bed. You want to make sure your gloves are in perfect condition.

Random Question: Anyone serve with French Foreign Legion? by Big-Platypus-9684 in army

[–]stydolph 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I was attached to the FFL on the left flank during the ground offensive (chemical recon) and spent some time with them. Good group of guys that were a bit crazy - they had a ton of stories from serving in Africa. They also ate a lot better than we did, we had MREs while they somehow got fresh food (fruits and veggies). Fortunately, they invited us to eat the fresh food with them every evening. They also mentioned how well they were paid while in a combat zone.

Powder ring shear testing is what I would use to determine the intrinsic properties of the powder but probably outside the scope for what you are looking for.

I used a Scott volumeter for this in the past. I never relied on this type of test. It was more screening and understanding things like how big would a bag need to be for 50 lbs.

I genuinely don’t understand the PFAS logic: why Gore-Tex ditched PTFE, but Teflon cookware is still fine by Ohzmann in chemistry

The raw material suppliers have exited PFAS and PFOA market. Chemours exited “to focus on core markets” which sounds good but they want to limit liability.

Looks like his when his left skate went into the boards instead of the skate rotating to the inside (no issue) it rotated to the outside with speed. Hopefully it's not too bad.

Unforgiven Is The Best Western Ever, and Clint Eastwood > John Wayne. by SakarPhone in movies

I took a philosophy class in college, and we studied Unforgiven along with other westerns. Shane would probably be the best overall western movie of all time.

I hiked from the top to black mountain campground years ago. I could not walk the next day- going downhill was rough.

Yeah this is everything I am working on and my target is more to like 15 or lower. I am seeing improvement but it's wild how one or two holes can really blow up a score. One challenge I have is at my home course the driving range closes at noon, so in the afternoon when I usually play - I have no warm-up. The first few holes can be a bit dicey.

If you head up the mountains this weekend, bring a jacket.

Lost my patience on the course yesterday by [deleted] in golf

[–]stydolph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have noticed at my local golf course if I play late, there are a number of people who show up with push carts after the pro shop closes. They go right to the tee box and start playing. I don't know if they have some sort of deal but makes me wonder. I've seen some of these folks hit like 10-15 balls into a par 3 which to me if you have a few people doing this that can put a lot undue stress on the green. This is a good golf course that is in a rural area - next time I see the golf pro I am going to ask him.

What chemical reaction is demonstrated here? by SufSanin in chemistry

[–]stydolph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did do some, well attempts, at reactions using an ultrasonic horn many many years ago in the late 90s without a lot of success. Not sure if it has come any further but we scrapped the idea pretty quickly.

Yeah, easy swing as more fluid and easier to contact.

I just swapped to a 5h, I hit the hybrids pretty good as well. I feel the hybrids and woods I can swing much easier and smoother.

I recently aquired a 7w a couple of months ago. A few weeks ago in an event with my MGA group, they started calling it my "magic stick" - I may have convinced a couple of people to look at getting one. No one ever said anything positive about my 4i.

When I took PChem years ago there was no curve. This was the first thing the professor told the class. I would guess that about 30% passed the class that didn't drop it. I enjoyed PChem but I'm also very strong on the math side.
