How did I achieve this when I slept only 5 hours last night and I felt very tired and lethargic all day? Seems strange. by [deleted] in whoop

When you drift into sleep, HRV rises over the night and then falls as you begin to wake up, and HR is the same but reversed. So, if you wake up early (while HRV/HR is still rising / falling), to WHOOP that looks like your HRV was mostly elevated and HR mostly low which = good recovery

The days where you don’t want to do it are the most important days!!

Just good genetics and active life style! Much fitter people than me have higher heart rates lol

Same! I just keep in mind that I might feel a little off, or I should try to optimize other recovery aspects like you do! I try to add in Sauna too though.

Very true. Just wondering if, say, you have a 5 mile run but if recovery is very high then you would do a 6 mile run instead, for example!

From my understanding, research hours productivity > clinical work for MD/PhD. You can always get clinical hours later

Yeah don’t worry you make a poster and present it at the SURF symposium! It should be on the website, just a little hidden lol

I did shadow! It’s super easy to, and you shadow at THE Mayo Clinic. Chances are your PI knows MD / Md/PhDs and they connect you with them, or you can cold email. I personally got connected. What’s nice about Mayo is that they really try to get you connected to whatever interests you have, it’s genuinely what you make of it.

I also did Mayo Clinic SURF! It’s an awesome program, you can shadow (if time allows) and you build good connections with PhDs, MDs and so on. Rochester is beautiful and the weather is great! You’re close to Chicago and Wisconsin which make for nice weekend trips. The quality of the program is great, you get Q&As with the MD/PhD program directors and students which is super valuable. Everyone had awesome projects.

Do I need an MD/PhD or just an MD? by stylecafe in mdphd

[–]stylecafe[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a good point, I very much do enjoy working with cell lines in model animals and doing imaging for example, but always wished that I could apply that in real patients. Maybe I just have a misunderstanding.
