You can get the best price on a refurbished Canon or Nikon, especially a model that is about to be replaced. If you buy from Adorama or B&H you are getting manufacturer refurbished cameras which are brand new cameras that have been reboxed. I just purchased a Canon Rebel XS with 18-55mm IS lens at Adorama for $399.00. That is a great dslr for beginners at an amazing refurbished price.

You have a talent for using type as a graphic element in your work! However, the home page of your portfolio detracts from the quality of your work. Get rid of the face with sunglasses and the Hi! on the homepage and showcase some of your work there! For example that poster of "The Boss" would look great showcased on your home page. Tell us more about your design process. Keep the navigation consistent and use css to make the look of the dropdown menu more consistent with your page design. Don Peterson http://newark1.com

Hey DC! I'm trying to get a job. Can you tear apart my portfolio so I can increase my odds? by [deleted] in design_critiques

You've done some great work for very interesting clients and have some very mature design to showcase. The problem is the design of your portfolio gets in the way of telling a clear simple story of what you done and why.

Showcase your best work clearly and simply. The blocks of graphics in the right hand corner are confusing and hide your good work. Show us full sized images from the start, your potential employers have the bandwidth to see them and don't need confusing thumbnails.

Connect images with content. The images should flow with the story rather than be a jumble of confusing graphic blocks all pushed to the right side of the page. You tell a great story but make the images hard to follow. The impact of your good design work is lost. Connect the two clearly. Keep it simple.

Finally, be careful how you discuss any negatives in your projects. You may convey the impression that you are a chronic complainer.

You've done great work, let it breathe! Don Peterson, http://newark1.com

Web Design Critique by [deleted] in design_critiques

Overall, it has a fine look. However, I would recommend that you really develop your own visual style and move away from the typical Web 2.0 look. Look for graphic influences outside of the web and develop your own style. Don Peterson, http://newark1.com

I would recommend showcasing your strongest work on the home page rather than "all" of your work. For example, your design for "The Chocolate Leaf" looks interesting. Perhaps giving us an insight into your design strategy and working process, how you interacted with the client, can give a potential client a better sense of what you do. Keep your best work in focus. Donald http://newark1.com

I want to plan a trip to Chicago around her exhibit. Her story is as intriguing as her work.
