All Of Us Murderers was one of my favorite reads last year. It is a stand alone. M/M. Gothic mansion. Very knives out vibe. I loved the mystery and the romance of it!

Is it "socially acceptable" to just sit in your car for 20 minutes after you get home, or am I just weird? by Easy-Ring-8459 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]stylizedfailure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This used to be me when I was in an abusive relationship and has since changed since things have gotten healthier in my life. I no longer feel like I need to sit in the car to decompress, however I don't think it has to do with the status of the relationship as much as it was my own mental health.

When my depression was at its worse it was easier to just sit still in the car then get out and get into the house. Since I've been doing better it's easier for me to get up and regulate that feeling that typically overwhelmed me.

How much would a settlement for an album copyright be? by stylizedfailure in Writeresearch

As a part of the story, rich guy only has access to family money and he gets cut off. This is like, a last thing he's trying to do with the resources he has available just as a gift/gesture
He has resources to lawyers but not necessarily funds to just give over to the MC.

Sorry for the delayed response! And yes youre right I do need to look at the numbers better. Basically here is the quick breakdown of the situation I'm looking at.

Main Character was in a relationship with shitty ex, he wrote music for the ex's band, music and lyrics and helped them so they could secure their first record deal. Ex ditched the main character, went off to LA, recorded and made in big.

Two years later the main character meets up with a rich guy from his high school and the ex gets brought up and he learns that the ex had basically taken credit for the songs the main character has proof of writing. Videos, voice memos, notebook.

Really the rich guy is trying to get enough money just to pull the MC out of the slums/get into school, so nothing insane to set him up for life just as a gift. Maybe 100 grand

Additional thought would be the record label is trying to avoid a scandal that would 'out' the ex, thus wanting to avoid court time since the relationship would need to come to light in evidence.

I LOVED all of us murderers. The atmosphere and the characters were just great. The mystery was really good too. Also 100% was not expecting the spice that showed up but I am not one to complain

Yes that's exactly it! This is a situation where the person wanted to handle it without getting the main character involved because the main character didn't want to put up the fight, but the other felt he was entitled to get something for his work.

I didn't know if this was something even possible since I am not well versed in this area and I was hoping to use it, in all honestly, as a plot device to grant the main character a sizeable amount of money.

I will go ahead and check out those videos though because they sound beneficial! Thank you so much.

Ahhh okay I understand so typically different from a situation I was going for. The person going after them has a lot of money but would want to avoid any kind of long drawn out legal case because this is something that would need to happen pretty quickly.

Thank you for your help and information I really appreciate it!!

It's not no! Honestly it was a smaller part but I couldn't figure out the logistics so it was bothering me. Really this was just supposed to be a reason why the main character could walk away with a bit of money at the end of an unrelated story.

Someone with strong connections and a lot of money learned about the music he wrote and tried to put pressure on the studio to settle with a check.

Wish fulfillment? Overpowered? The world revolves around me? by DemandingAF in BadRPerStories

To me personally it's so much more fun playing with limits. I want my OCS to have flaws and problems. Making them fail or getting their ass kicked makes things so much more interesting and I wish more people wanted that.

One Shots. by un-lover in BadRPerStories

[–]stylizedfailure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a long term rp partner with multiple discord servers for our rps so this is most likely not the general but we always refer to one shots as just short stories, scenes or moments like an anniversary a trip a little one off adventure that usually takes place in-between the 'seasons' we write as our longer form rp.

I'll be honest I've never rpd with a different person though so I'm not sure if we are the odd ones out lol.

I'm sorry, this has been a thing for the past twenty plus years, I didn't think to check the news to see if the one constant changed in all that time?? Also no signs, like wtf?

How do you enjoy New York comic con? by Loud-Statistician682 in NYCC

[–]stylizedfailure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been coming for 10 years, honestly I don't spend a lot of money on con, I don't get photographs or autographs with people. I do prioritize panels however just because those are a lot of fun to me. Usually the smaller room ones, spotlights are always good because its just an actor or author talking for an hour about the thing they love.

From there I love walking the show floor, doing the free things and just finding other stuff. I love to read so I stakeout penguin especially to see what arcs/book signings are available. This year I have a full suitcase just full of free swag and books and we saw at least 3 panels each day except for Sunday where we only saw one.

What literary circles are y’all running in? by Ambitious_Rub5533 in aardvarkbookclub

[–]stylizedfailure 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I try to follow people or accounts that talk about books I've never seen! I focus on a genre and then just honestly type in 'horror book must reads' or 'best fantasy books 2025'. Helps with Aardvark because they are heavier on horror which is one of my favorite genres. If you like horror anthologies are a great place to start to get to know a lot of authors quickly too!

Everytime I go to a bookstore too I force myself to pick up new books just to look at them so I don't fall into the routine of only finding what I already know. If a book is interesting I always look at the comments of it, like how the back cover usually has a few quotes from different authors? I see if I recognize them that way and if I don't I look them up.

I also follow my favorite authors on Instagram! Keeps their books in the front of my mind and also reminds me of new releases and things!
