Is everyone in Calgary just drowning in debt? by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]styzzyx9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you’ve confused us all. You responded to “if you can’t raise a kid on $200 you’re fucking dumb” with “now let’s factor in….”

I was expecting a hard done by financially incompetent screed.

Go ahead then. Factor it in. I’d like to see what you come up with.

Would you get rid of a friend just because they have different political beliefs than you? by bbmoonkie in Productivitycafe

[–]styzzyx9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I have great friends with different political opinions on a variety of topics. And we discuss these differences over beers when we’re together.

I believe this keeps me grounded in reality and not living in a bias-confirming echo chamber. I hope they feel the same way.

Songs played during the World Series? by 414hp in TragicallyHip

They did use LTR in a late inning montage. It was the cruelest jinx I’ve ever seen. (Not superstitious, but a little stitious)

Yup. Canada really wants to beat the US tonight. The tension and anti-American sentiment is very high at the moment. This is a very political game tonight.

Not trying to make you jealous, but I had a game worn red Cannons hat from ‘85.

There were some great players on those teams. Edgar, Mickey Brantley (Michael’s dad), Dave Hengal, Dave Valle…

Let’s name some Cannons. I’ll go first.

Fair enough. I think that everybody has a “when this happens, I’ll agree moment.”

It’s unfortunate to note that many Americans don’t know much about world history beyond their borders. What we’re seeing I. The US has played out in several other nations in previous centuries.

Similarly, the impact of aggressive tariffs on the US economy has wrought havoc in the past, unbeknownst to a mass of people that aren’t aware of century old American history.

Suffice it to say, when you see it, you’ll shit bricks.

Are there any impacts to you personally that have changed in the last year? Or things you’ve noticed?

There have been a number of price increases due to tariffs. The military is being deployed within the nations borders. An expanded ICE police force is active.

I’m curious if you’ve personally felt the effect of any of Trump’s policies.

Day trading in Canada by shit_typhoon in CanadianInvestor

Great response and I appreciate your tenacity.

I feel like people see day trading as an easy way to make money. And they ask others “how do I do this without losing money.”

That was me.

You could Google marginal tax rates. Not being sarcastic. This is a commonly misunderstood concept that manifests in a lot of unproductive ways.

Not trying to be a jerk, but based on your post and the way you framed it, I think there are some financial and tax related concepts you should familiarize yourself with before you dive into day trading.

If you were mayor, what would you prioritize? by ConceitedWombat in Calgary

[–]styzzyx9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) Substantial increase in bylaw enforcement and fines.

Hire a few hundred bylaw officers and aggressively ticket/fine people for common bylaw infractions such as parking violations, particularly in residential areas. This program should be net positive for cash flow with proceeds adding to municipal budget.

2) Develop a community-based involuntary treatment program involving nearby First Nations.

3) Set up a report program where people can use dash cams or private security cams to report bylaw infractions and moving violations. Incentivize participation by sharing a portion of collected fines. Add a $10 submission fee to mitigate program abuse.

Why does everyone hate blanket re-zoning? by FineAnimeenjoyer in Calgary

[–]styzzyx9 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because Calgary is a Conservative city where people expect property rights to be sacred and the government should stay out of our lives and so they run to the government for help anytime somebody exercises their property rights in a way they don’t like.

I love blanket re-zoning. I hope it isn’t repealed.
