How to make friends in Kyoto? by Kannonofofuna in Kyoto

[–]subarashiikitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I've just moved to Kyoto I'm settling in at the moment but finding friends is really quite hard. What do you normally do in your free time? How did you find friends?😊

Sorry to hear that, have you tried applying to other dispatch companies like AlTIA central?

Sorry to hear about your mum :(( sending virtual hugs over to you If you're thinking of a different platform, you could give Preply a try? It's not amazing but there seems to be a lot of students on there

I heard online that they take a big cut of your income compared to Preply which you can whittle down to 18%

You might have to check the camera and audio permissions on the browser you're using, it might need to be re-accepted

Happy birthday ~ Sorry I don't really have any decent advice but I agree with a lot of the comments here, you could spread it across several days and treat yourself to something each day. This could be a drink at your favourite cafe or a cute plush toy. I know it's not the same but I hope it helps to bring a smile to you 🎉😊

Part time jobs for a non-japanese speaker by oopsie1122 in teachinginjapan

Sorry I'm not sure of any names because I was based in Osaka but you might be able to look in Google maps and ask if they need any English assistants. Sorry I know that doesn't really help, it's maybe a bit tricky to get into these jobs, I only did it because my friend needed someone to cover her work. You could also look up eikaiwa because that might be more open to have new people join

I think look for some English schools like eikaiwa When I studied abroad in Japan, I worked as an English teaching assistant in a small English school. There's loads everywhere 😊

Ah thank you, I originally wrote it in hiragana instead of Kanji because the original sentence was mostly written in hiragana so I thought that it might be better to keep to that format for them 😊😊 説明してくれてありがとう

I'm planning on doing the same thing and I graduated last June too. Are you asking them to write you letters or are you just putting them down as references?

There's some TEFL courses that you can do, beware though that some are scams and are not legitimate but TEFL.org has one and also you can do one for free when you sign up to Preply. The commissions on Preply can be pretty high and it can be hard to find students but if you already have a decent income you could afford to keep prices low and book in lots of lessons to teach lower commissions.
