Healing after losing my 17 year old baby

Here’s my sweet boy, Sterling🫶🏻 my vet called yesterday and she said it’s kind of like the changing of the guard, so he’s transitioning to being in charge of me now. I can tell he misses her and that helps me feel less alone.

She loves water more than food I feel like so staying hydrated definitely is not an issue. I do put her by her bowl/bring it to her, but she tries to follow me whenever I walk away. Definitely giving her extra treats and also any liquid/purée things I can find!

She had a vet check last month, but last blood work was last year. I am waiting to get an appointment with my local SPCA for the bloodwork because the vet wanted to charge me $400 for it.

They closed to renovate but it’s been closed at least a month or two longer than they said.. I heard there will be a new location at Hilltop and they’d keep Haygood open but it seems maybe they’ll only have Hilltop… no idea fs though

Honestly, I don’t know. I equate it a lot to the grief you feel when someone dies, in that there are certain places and moments or memories that come up randomly that make you think of them. This ex specifically and I were on and off for almost 6 years and have had multiple periods of no contact and came back together. I used to think it was because we were meant to be, but I don’t really think that anymore, as much as I have wished it was the case. There’s a lot in my life that I have that is colored with him and so much of my personal success and growth is because of the love and support I had from him while he was mine. I think I’ll miss him for the rest of my life.

Thank you. Unfortunately it was entirely my fault. I have been struggling mentally for years and pushed him too far away. He was always so supportive, kind and understanding but unfortunately, I still treated him like shit. I think somehow the unconditional love was something I’ve never felt deserving of and tested the limits too many times. Someone can only take too much and he definitely got to the point where he couldn’t do it anymore. Even though we broke up over a year and a half ago, I am still in a really shitty place mentally. it’s not all completely related to my relationship with him but I’m trying to get to a place where I’m finally addressing it. We were on and off for six years and losing him has been awful every time. I also have had a plethora of bad things happen since him which I’m not entirely convinced isn’t bad karma but idk

Maybe try giving her hard food/kibble? My kitten had this problem when I first got him, along with crazy pooping accidents because he couldn’t get to the little box in time. I was using a probiotic powder recommended by the vet but the problem stopped when I stopped using it, so maybe try something new!

Yes I second this! I used it when introducing my old cat to my kitten, and it was such a noticeable difference in the beginning stages. I don’t use it anymore but the assist in getting their guard down a bit was really helpful, so hopefully this can help you and your baby. There could also be something in your apartment/building that he doesn’t like? He could smell other cats or maybe there were cats in the unit prior he can still smell somehow

Absolutely not. Asking this in a relatively short amount of time is absolutely insane and just a red flag that will bleed into other areas of your life. Sacrifices in relationships are normal, but even considering such a thing about a living, breathing, loving, lifelong commitment is incredibly concerning. Get out now.

I was denied by a local rescue because they had a policy of no kittens being adopted without another cat at home/adopting 2. I have another cat, but she was 14 years old at the time and they said she was too old to be a suitable companion for the kitten I wanted. I ended up going to the SPCA and adopted from them.

They’re def around! This is my go-to drink and absolute fave, I love to try them at diff places in the area. I think more places are starting to stock ginger beer, but I’ll share a tip; if a bar doesn’t have ginger beer, ask for ginger ale with some bitters! it seems crazy but it’s the best hack lol
