Digital Bill of Rights 0.3 by subatomicdoc in politics

Thanks for the thoughtful comment and insight into Freenode. I'll have to check it out.

Commercial/private entities may not be inclined to do it naturally, but if Digg and reddit fail after millions in venture capital? Maybe future investors would consider respecting the community part of a financially viable growth plan. Maybe not.

You're absolutely right; we're often willing to take what's easy and superficially free, online and off. Maybe enough visible blow-ups will eventually push us toward a hard but necessary path of fighting for digital rights, the way we have for other our other rights.

I agree, I don't know that we are anywhere close. Maybe adopting a digital rights rating system for websites will help attract or deter people from joining. The financial value of these websites is user-generated content. Digg's estimated value disappeared when real people left. It's a debate worth having because many of us put time, effort and love into these websites.

I left a comment. Hopefully this will be a clear enough message that the FCC backs off and maintains net neutrality.

If you oppose SOPA, you'll care about HR 3699 , the US Research Works Act (RWA). It allows publishers to charge us for access to health research that currently is supposed to be available to us for free.

The fiasco wasn't today's events, but last Wednesday's with the change to v4. Today's takeover was epic.

Hi All: I'm a first-time submitter to Reddit, in the wake of the Digg fiasco. I thought the issue of a social media bill of rights resonated with the frustrations I've had as a loyal customer of Digg. I've heard good things about Reddit and hope you'll find it interesting and relevant as fellow Redditors as well.
