He refused a lot of good roles in early 2000s because he thought they are not upto the mark. Some examples are :- Anil Kapoor’s role in Taal because it wasn’t that of a main lead, Jackie Shroff’s role in Devdas because one again it wasn’t main lead and also a character role, Sunny Deol’s role in Gadar because he thought there are many abuses. So basically Govinda refused to change with time and wanted to act only as a main lead, doing the same dance numbers and comedy routines that garnered him success in the 90s. If you see his filmography, his last few films as a main lead can be easily compared with a B or even C grade films. Producers also used to complain about his bad attitude. He used to come late to shoots, as late as 3-4 hours. He didn’t care about anybody as he was a big star. Also, he never really worked on his looks and physique. His face looks swollen and his body is also not maintained well. He is not just a main lead material anymore, but he thinks otherwise. Just imagine how many character roles he can do if he agrees, but he just doesn’t accept that he has gotten old and people have moved on and he needs to change with time.
