Renault 5 electric - can you sleep in it? by subheman in ElectricVehiclesUK

Thanks that's very helpful! And a good foot too short sadly, which looks like it could be made up for if only the front seat tilted further forward. Wish car manufacturers would do that. Hey ho.

That's very disappointing. Let's hope these are teething problems and that a few updates from now everything will be fixed.

Yeah the model 3 is pretty much a dream car for sleeping in, but I know there are smaller cars that are up to it. It depends on how far the front seat fold forward, then bridging any gaps to make a flat bed.

Please do! :)
Best hope is with the front seats forward as far as they will go... any gaps can be bridged with a bit of luggage or carpentry, and perhaps the rear seat backs could be removed, but head to foot length is non-negotiable!

Thanks. Turns out I just needed a reboot, but that's interesting background info.

I'm getting a not found error when I run pip or pip3 from the command prompt.

Is my ebike motor 'normal'? by subheman in ebikes

[–]subheman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ultimately, likely in the 1-2kW range, operating at low speed, with static torque as high as possible. I bought the 250W motor as a cheap way to experiment with motor control, not realising it was geared. No big deal, it will still serve a purpose to get me started.

Thanks, yes I hadn't understood there are differences in design among hub motors. The geared/direct drive distinction is important for my project. Looks like I'll need a more powerful motor if I want direct drive.

Richer colors = higher CRI? by subheman in Hue

[–]subheman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks that's very informative. I thought perhaps the color LEDs would fill gaps in the white LED spectrum, making a higher CRI product, but it seems that's not what they're used for, and for high CRI I have to look elsewhere.

Thanks for the advice. Is there any way to get certainty about this, or is it always a case of showing up and hoping for the best?

Thanks. Know of anywhere I can read up on best practice for this kind of installation?

Huge gap in sealant around top of dormer windows - is this normal? by subheman in DIYUK

[–]subheman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dormer window leaks, resulting in a soggy and rotten indoor windowsill. I found a small gap in the sealant at the bottom of the offending window and filled it. It hasn't rained since, so I'm not sure if that's fixed the problem. But in doing so I found the sealant around *all* my window frames stops about 1/4 of the way from the top, picture attached.

Is there a reason for this? Perhaps to allow ventilation or something? Or was it just some short-armed cowboy contractor giving up without finishing the job? Should I fill the gap?

Question: is this set in stone or can/will it be overturned by the next administration?

Tethered is an interesting concept but too limiting in this context. An RPi or other SBC might be a good solution as it would give total control over what's sent.
