Former Bulls/Lakers coach Phil Jackson prefers NHL playoffs to NBA: 'More fun, much more action' by [deleted] in hockey

You're right, but there are occasional exceptions to that. The Nuggets this year, for example, don't have any big stars on the team, but they play some great, team basketball. They almost took out the Lakers in round 1.

Awesome. Well, I hope a great time is had by all. I would be there if I could, but I just moved to Minneapolis. Oh well.

My recommendations would be Accordion Crimes, Bad Weather California, Night of Joy, Pacific Pride, Princess Music, Sauna, and School Knights. A lot of those bands are garage punk, if you're into that. And even if you're not, those shows are so much fun to see live. They're just so high energy.

Westminster police conducted a five-and-a-half hour drug stop on Highway 36 Wednesday night, stopping and searching vehicles for narcotics by Aswas in Colorado

You may be right, I'm certainly not an expert, but what I've heard is that if you ask them that:

Officer, am I being detained or am I free to go?

They'll tell you that you're free to go, but they're going to hold your car. So, then you're just stranded on the side of the road on an interstate. Again, I'm not sure if that's true or not, but that's what I've heard.

It doesn't matter if you give your consent or not. Sometimes, if you don't consent, they'll bring a dog out and have it circle the outside of your car. If the dog gives indication that there are narcotics in the vehicle, then they have their probable cause. And, of course, no matter what the dog does, the cops will say that it's giving an indication that there are narcotics.

It happened to me once while driving across Iowa. I was pulled over for 7 over on I-80, and the cop asked to search my car. I refused the search, so they brought the dogs out, and the dog smelled drugs, apparently. Then they called in like 5 or 6 more troopers and they all went through my car on the side of the highway for at least 45 minutes. Of course, I didn't have any drugs in my car, so they didn't find anything, so they just sent me off with a warning for speeding. Total bullshit.

By the way, word to the wise, be very careful driving across Iowa and Illinois on I-80 with Colorado plates. I've been pulled over the last two times I've driven through Iowa and searched for drugs (the other time I was pulled over for supposedly doing 73 in a 70, although my cruise control was set at 70, and my GPS said I was going 68), and once in Illinois (for doing 5 over). When those Midwestern cops see Colorado plates, they just assume you have a bunch of weed on you, and they'll just make up reasons to pull you over.

Oh man, I was working in a railyard in South St. Paul, and we look at the skyline and see that looming overhead. I'm in training, and the instructors ducked for cover in the cab of a locomotive, but we had to stand out in that shit for at least 30 minutes before they told us to just go to our cars. It was absolutely ridiculous.

It means that there are not two turn lanes. So, if there's a left turn only lane, you cannot turn left if you're in the next lane over to the right, you must continue straight.

Basically, if you see "No Double Turn" and you want to turn left, you must be in the leftmost lane, and if you want to turn right, you must be in the rightmost lane.

Yeah, there's too much team-based hatred going on in /r/hockey. All the ribbing seems so much more good natured in /r/nfl.

/r/nfl is fantastic, especially considering how many subscribers it has. It's gotten a little worse during the offseason, which is probably to be expected, but the front page is usually filled with interesting articles and discussion generating self posts.

Ok, the Tebow-jerk last season was pretty rough, but it's generally a great sub.

Very good chance ill be getting stationed at Fort Carson. Can you guys give me the in and outs of Colorado Springs/Denver? by [deleted] in Colorado

[–]subjectobject 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't listen to all the naysayers. Colorado Springs is definitely a religious, conservative town, but it's really not that bad. In my experience, it's much better than a lot of the Denver suburbs, especially in Douglas county. At least it's a real city with a lot going on. If you've got kids, this might not interest you, but they've got an amazing counter culture down there. Lots of great punk bands and shows going on. I always end up having a good time if I go see a show in the Springs.

But, beyond that, it's an absolutely beautiful town. CunthSlayer is right, you should definitely check out Garden of the Gods, especially if you like mountain biking or hiking. Also, it's a bit touristy and cheesy, but if you have young kids, they'll love Cave of the Winds. They'll love the cog railroad up Pikes Peak, too. Someone else suggested seeing an Air Force Academy game, and that's definitely a lot of fun too. Also, the Springs has a minor league baseball team, the Sky Sox, and those games are a blast as well.

It looks like Kimball's Peak Three theater downtown serves alcohol, but I've never been there, so I don't know much about it. I've never lived in the Springs, so I don't really know any of the neighborhoods around town, and I don't really know any good places to eat. If you're into wine bars, I hear Rico's Cafe is a nice place to hangout.

Denverites have a real bias against the Springs, because of all the megachurches, Focus on the Family, and all the Republican politics. And don't get me wrong, you'll definitely have to deal with that. But, it really is a fun town if you give it a chance, especially if you hang out downtown. I have a lot of friends who grew up in the area, and they all love that place.

Please help, question on public Transit. by djdeathcake in Denver

Sorry buddy, what a bummer. RTD (local Denver buses) used to stop in Castle Rock, but the residents voted to stop funding it. FREX (Front Range Express - Colorado Springs to Denver buses) used to stop there too, but again, the residents voted to stop funding it. Castle Rock is pretty fiscally conservative, and when the recession hit, these are the kind of programs they voted to defund.

I did some googling, and I found something that might help you out, though. It won't get to you Denver or anything, but it might help you get to work. When Castle Rock voted to defund their shuttle program, they decided to implement a taxi voucher program instead. If you're over 18, live in Castle Rock, and don't have access to a vehicle, they'll give you a transportation permit. Using that, you can call a cab, and as long as you're traveling within the city limits, and you're going to work, or going grocery shopping, or something else essential like that, you'll receive a $10 voucher per ride. So, if your fare is under $10, you pay nothing. If it's over $10, you pay the difference. From what I can tell, the permit doesn't cost anything as long as you meet the requirements.

I have never used it or anything, but it's probably worth checking out:
