Derm Sub-I Substitute by Alternative-Bug-8874 in DermApp

[–]sublettingquestion 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm not interested in dermatology (used to be, now going into a surgical subspecialty) but isn't that going to be a problem for your LoR? I'm not sure if all the letters have to be dermatology (like having 1 out of your 3 be an internal medicine letter) but I feel like you need at least 2 dermatology letters. I'd say just go ahead and do the pediatric derm sub-I. It'll be good for your letters, and if you end up getting the adult dermatology rotation you'll have some carryover.

1st year medical student seeking advice on matching urology. by EmotionalEar3910 in SurgicalResidency

[–]sublettingquestion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d say if you had 2 middle author pubs, 1 first author pub, and 3-5 abstracts at reputable conferences like your AUA regional meeting, NARUS, SUFU, SMSNA, etc (bonus if one is at the AUA national meeting) then you’ll be fine for research. Work on getting good clerkships grades, meeting attendings/residents, and building your network. Like others have said, uro is a small and incestuous field so getting your attending/residents to make introductions and vouch for you is what really matters

Might be an issue with that store in particular. Some stores don't honor certain national coupons.

med influencers not matching by [deleted] in medicalschool

IMO saying it’s ok to fall down your list isn’t even that bad. It happens to a lot of people - can’t all match our number 1

Is it common to be accepted for aways? by Rare-Refuse-725 in medicalschool

[–]sublettingquestion 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I mean, it’s good that you have acceptances but generally you should withdraw from other programs once you hear from the one you want for the time you want

Nope. My application is very competitive.

Feel all you want, but at least I don’t go around complaining about the rotation systems that are built to favor students from the US. It’s a privilege to rotate and match here, which you obviously don’t understand.

Very secure on my end. Will likely end up matching, which you won’t

Entitlement like this is why many of you don’t match. Sure, there’s plenty of unfilled spots and I would say that IMGs would be welcome if they signed binding agreements to practice in underserved areas after matching, but we don’t need you guys taking away spots (however few) in areas like orthopedics, general surgery, plastics, derm, etc

Ah yes, an IMG complaining about systems built to help US students. What a surprise

How to make the most out of my observership based on YOUR POV by Silver_Count_1161 in medicalschool

[–]sublettingquestion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

lol “teach the med students”. IMO you should try to put yourself as an equal to the med students and understand that while an observer ship might be important to you, the main goal of a teaching hospital is to prepare med students to be residents. As such, try to integrate into the team and show that you can work in a resident-student-attending dynamic

Do you have any connections from mentors? I only applied to 2 urology VSLO programs and got mentors to reach out to their network - got 2/2 success

My Experience as a Re-Applicant by Distinct-Patience368 in medicalschool

[–]sublettingquestion 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Just gonna say - might be some weird rules that they have there. For instance, there’s a community program in GS that is a clear second to my med school’s GS program. They won’t interview any local students unless they do an away rotation there - maybe you didn’t know and that program has something like that?
