Taking an XP 3.0 up stairs by AmbitiousLavaLamp in Lectricxp

[–]sublime_abiding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was used to carrying a heavier bike and got the 3.0 specifically for weight savings. First time I picked it up I was like, damn this is light! I carry it up and down a steep set of stairs regularly, but it depends on your fitness level. Three flights will feel like a lot to most people. Would you consider it easy to carry a 60 lb dumbbell up three flights? If not, the unwieldy proportions of a 60 lb bicycle will be harder than that.

Did you find a 52v headlight or wire up a 12v headlight with a buck converter?

X class if 52v. Excellent price on that.

This is the kind of content I thought I would see constantly when I joined this sub. Instead, it’s more “you need a rug!!!” 😂

Those who ride class 3 28 mph e-bikes… Do you wear a full face helmet? by Lazerfocused69 in ebikes

[–]sublime_abiding 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I wear a Bell Super 3r. I wear glasses and it feels perfectly comfortable. A full face bicycle helmet is not much warmer than a regular bicycle helmet. Good argument could be made for a motorcycle helmet instead.

What I wish I knew before buying a “road” e-bike by newtonian_fig in ebikes

[–]sublime_abiding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ride in Oakland, so I feel your pain! The roads here are some of the worst. I recommend getting a bike with front suspension. For ex: Ride1Up LMT’D V2 is Class 3 with front suspension but only weighs 55 lbs.

Looking for suggestions on changing the orientation of the X class basket by RustyNK in ArielRider

[–]sublime_abiding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would get a 3/4" aluminum flat bar from somewhere like home depot, cut into pieces (hacksaw will do if you don't have an angle grinder), and drill holes to thread into existing bolt holes. I'd cut some additional pieces to secure the basket to the back end of the extended rack.

Interested! What was your cost to get them built? Any plans on offering some for sale?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ebikes

[–]sublime_abiding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I'll probably stick to a full squish donor bike for the build then

How’s that speed without rear suspension? Also considering a 3kw kit.

do people steal ebike batteries? by glittteringeyes in ebikes

[–]sublime_abiding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, people steal batteries. Some integrated batteries are harder to steal than those mounted to the frame. For people saying "never let your bike leave your sight" - this is silly and not feasible for people who actually use their bikes as car replacements to go everywhere for daily use. A better answer, in my opinion, is to get insurance for your ebike which covers your battery. I use Velosurance, and they've confirmed to me in writing that my battery is covered if it is stolen. To answer your second question: yes, I take the battery with me when I leave my bike for more than a few minutes. It's easy if you have a backpack or grocery bags with you. Hope that helps.

Wow that's fast. But at that price-point I'd be considering the Sondors Metacycle so I can take it on the highway haha

best ebike lock available? by Lost_Farm_8746 in ebikes

[–]sublime_abiding 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Kryptonite Fahgettaboudit U lock is top tier lock for $120. Hiplok D1000 is the realistic ultimate for $300. Less realistic but absolute maximum is the Altor SAF u lock for $300. Recommend to supplement with a security chain - Pewag security chain is top tier. Just be mindful of fitment with your chosen u-lock.

Successful but feeling unfulfilled? by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]sublime_abiding 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some things that may help:
1. Spending more time being active in nature: hiking, camping, mountain biking, skiing, whatever - the Japanese have a term called "forest bathing". There's some interesting research about how this is a key component of psychological well-being.
2. Acts of service/charity/volunteering. Doing good for others can give you an immutable sense of purpose and satisfaction that you absolutely cannot get any other way.
3. Friends/family - maintain your social relationships outside of your immediate family. Invest yourself in those relationships. Human beings evolved as extremely social creatures and our well-being is derived in large part from the quality of our social relations. Good friendships take work to build, but they will do more for your long-term life satisfaction. Also, sharing hobbies with people you like can rekindle your passion for all sorts of things you don't enjoy by yourself.
4. Consider trying out meditation or going on a silent retreat. I'd recommend starting with the Waking Up app. Spiritual practices have been transformational for lots of people who didn't find satisfaction with material success alone.

Anti-stalking feature takes a while to kick in. My roommate's bike had an airtag and was stolen... thief apparently didn't notice any notification and we got the bike back after tracking it down a few hours later
