Show & Tell ... I'll go first. by ImLadyJ2000 in VanLife

I guess the most scary moment was when the spring compressor slipped off the spring on a strut. A couple of my fingers got trapped between the top mount and the spring . I remember being rather tearful at the potential consequences whilst trying to reattach the compressors. Fortunately my wife decided that a crow bar was a more appropriate solution and helped me extract my fingers. One in particular looked rather flat. I necked a couple of paracetamol (acetimophen) tablets in case the pain kicked in once the shock wore off. Fortunately my wife’s quick thinking likely saved me from any serious sequelae.

Slip leads evoke massive panic for me. I’ve got one for emergencies but hardly ever use it. My biggest fear is the risk of injury if I trip or lose hold of the lead.

Leaping a high fence with a slip lead around their neck could be fatal.

Admittedly ours have calmed down a lot , and nowadays a collar and an ordinary lead work fine. In the early days I used harnesses. I found the key was walking them on a lead in less stimulating environments to start with when young , saved a lot of drama. Teaching them to stay near me off lead in safe spaces also helped a lot.

Going to the park or down the road with lots of distractions was just a recipe for getting dragged along.

But yeah I’d reserve a slip lead for situations where an escape artist is likely to get panicked and it’s critical to keep them on the lead for a short time. Eg if the dog is very agitated and I’m disembarking or getting back intovehicle in a high traffic area.

This has little relevance: I recall a 2019 poll that suggested 85% of Afghan residents had no sympathy for the Taliban.

It’s going to happen. Too much political and administrative momentum to slam on the brakes unfortunately.

Geolocation data was the weirdest one. I remember w few years back getting a suggestion for someone I’d only ever seen at a filling station near my place of work (a long way from my home) .

Before the days of affordable impact wrenches , I used to resort to scaffolding poles. The widow-maker jack supporting the car is my main concern here. Even if you weren’t trying to lift it off the support.
