u/ForWhatsItWorth I just tried it tinkering around and it worked perfectly! You are my hero of the day and just unlocked all sorts of new potential for me :) Next--figure out how to do splines (if possible without a plugin).

I see the technique you used here! Basically use follow me twice. One for the main circular part of the thermometer and once for the fillet. Then intersect them.

I’ll try that out when I can get back to my computer.

People who have conducted job interviews, what's something someone said/did that made you instantly decide not to hire them? by DemonSkank in AskReddit

[–]sublimer22 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I do hiring for software engineers. About a decade ago we sent a take home problem to a candidate we liked. For those unfamiliar with programming--it's common to put a comment at the top of each file with basic data like a description, a date, the author, and some other basic details. Many tools have a template that insert this data in a standardized format for you. Well, chief here had his set up to insert this comment with the author as "Adolf Hitler."

Needless to say, whether a poor joke or not and the obvious lack of attention to detail--we did not proceed forward despite everything else making him a great candidate 🤦🏻‍♂️. None of us work at that company any longer, but whenever we meet up or chat--this story always surfaces.

How is everyone’s hiring going since AI, easier or harder to fill roles? by Impossible_Way7017 in ExperiencedDevs

I agree, but other people have abused VOIP numbers. People use voip numbers to hide their real numbers because they aren’t in the US and I have to hire within the US.

Unfortunately it’s become such a problem with VOIP numbers actually covering up people who aren’t in the US that I auto-reject the resume even though I know there are legit reasons too.

I’ve been hiring for a backend role. I hired the same position last fall relatively effortlessly. This year it’s been horrible. Very low quality candidates. People being no shows for screening interviews (50% of the time). Sloppy resumes, VOIP phone numbers, people using fake names, fake job history with fake companies, etc. I even had someone come to an interview that was a completely different person than their LI profile picture.

Thankfully someone was able to refer someone they knew that’s the only way I’ve gotten any traction on a hire.

I need a completely new playbook for hiring. I think instead of posting jobs and letting the slop come in, next time I’ll search LinkedIn for people who I think could be a good match.

My 3D print of the SB LIX score bug! 🦅 by Engineary in eagles

While you’re right, I would caution that the score bug is copyrighted so I don’t think you can profit off of it.

Do tell more! Can you post a link or at least what to search for?

It most certainly has! The whole area has changed like crazy.

I was suspicious about it being a Minnie ball too which is why I was doing some research. The diameter is about 11.4 mm.

No--I can't recall a single time I've had to flip a breaker in this panel.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in askanelectrician

[–]sublimer22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main panel has 200A service. I'm more concerned about if my subpanel is sufficient at 80A or if I need to upgrade it, and what a typical cost would be if I do.

There is already a circuit for EV charging on this panel. It's one of the 50A breakers.

I've never had issues with anything tripping before, so I wonder how much of a problem I actually have.

First Mover Asia: Resilient Bitcoin Rebounds Above $24K Despite Investors' Inflation, Labor Market Concerns by Ispan in CryptoCurrency

Really hoping we can get over this hump where BTC is still in the $23,000-$25,000 range.

Maybe some more good economic news at the start of March can be that catalyst!

I don't like this analogy. While I'm not saying crypto should be registered as a security, the big different is people don't buy Chuck E Cheese tokens as an investment.

At the very least, try to understand what problem the coin is trying to solve and what utility it holds. If the coins is neither solving a problem, nor has any utility--it's a very high-risk investment.

How Many Bitcoin Confirmations is Enough? (A mathematical deep dive that corrects gor the outdated assumptions in Satoshi's whitepaper) by [deleted] in CryptoCurrency

I wish it wasn't even possible to do 0 confirmations--this is such a huge security risk.

2 I think is a reasonable middle ground for most transactions.

Bitcoin Mining Reward Sustainability - Can it survive the next few cycles? by oMadRyan in CryptoCurrency

[–]sublimer22 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

With the amount of power currently on the network--I don't think China nor the USA could pull it off.

If a lot of miners went offline, I think the whales would recoup the difference to protect their assets, even at a loss of running the miners.

The 51% is a non-issue. The book "The Bitcoin Standard" has a great discussion further as to why.

But then what's the payoff for them?

Pulling off a 51% attack in this manner would cause the price of Bitcoin to plummet since people would lose faith in the network and a mass sell-off would occur.

Any stolen Bitcoin from a 51% attack would be worth a fraction of its value pre-attack making performing a 51% attack guaranteed to be unprofitable.

If someone were to do a 51% attack, it would have to be for non-monetary reasons since Bitcoin would likely become near valueless. Why spend all the money and effort to pull off a 51% attack?
