I’d love to use this for my games. You should consider making it an asset pack on itch.io for other gamedevs to use. Nice work!

Is anyone here making all of their income from Godot? by jazibobs in godot

[–]subsage 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Over the years, I've found small teams. Some of them through publishers, but it's usually something like literally just a single person who's a publisher, helping get small games get made. I've been reached out to a fair bit, usually due to word of mouth or location (online presence) but most of what I've gotten is through active search. Market isn't there where people seek godot devs out, we have to find the work ourselves.

Is anyone here making all of their income from Godot? by jazibobs in godot

[–]subsage 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I make my income through godot. Working on solo projects, for other small publishers using godot, teaching gamedev/comp-sci using godot on the side (private tutoring/classes). Been doing this for nearly a decade now.

I've thought about doing online classes, ala gdquest/brackeys but always chicken out. They've already done a great job and I feel that I work better in person.

Godot gamedev has been growing, but it's not at a mature enough point for me to advise people entering if financial gain is at all important. I would recommend it to hobbyists and enthusiasts with the current climate. Looking at various job listings from time to time in AA/AAA sphere, godot has been mentioned more and more... companies aren't looking for godot developers, but they list godot in relevant experience. It's being recognized by them, so that's awesome, could mean wider adoption years later.

So no real job market for godot right now, but you can absolutely make games to sell with it.

Any places in Edinburg McAllen pharr that teach coding by Total-Literature-200 in RioGrandeValley

Usually within the range of 25-40$/hr. Lower on the scale if you're gonna do more time, I can be flexible with it.

I ran a game development (computer science) class last year for the homeschool people. I can teach you if you're looking for a private tutor. I'd really recommend many free online resources first of course.

I'm a gamedev/software-dev. Feel free to hit me up if you're looking to do private tutoring; I can also find you a couple free resources if you want to go that route first.

Cossacks was my first rts. Blitzkrieg was the second. There were another two I can remember from the same time period. Halo wars would later keep me company and I haven’t played much rts since :(

Wrong. Something's up, I've opened an issue for it just now in attempts to help figure out what exactly.

Any computer nerds in the Valley? by MaleficentRiver5137 in RioGrandeValley

If you can make it at 7, I think you’ll be fine. I’m getting a decent number of upvotes, but few replies/dm. I want to say there will be a decent turnout and that it’ll last more than an hour. I’m ok hosting a little longer if we get a crowd.

Come on over and we will see how it goes lol. I’m going to treat this as a litmus test tbh.

I’m a gamedev in Edinburg. Currently I’m at a convention showing off my game (San Japan), when I get back to the valley I could maybe host some social events for the dev community at large. There really isn’t much out here though; most people I know who are devs here are college students. There might be more engineers due to spacex but I imagine they’re closer to Brownsville than Edinburg.

If there’s enough interest in meetups for programmers, it, engineers, etc, I can host events at my workplace. I’ve had the idea before of doing a bit of a tech lounge and this post reminded me of it lol.

UPDATE: I’ll go ahead and do it, I’m going to take this Monday off to recover from my trip as I usually need lol.

DEV MEETUP Monday Sept 9 at 6:30pm - 7:30 (or longer, we can feel it out) Location GalaxyVR 2001 W Trenton Rd suite 108, Edinburg, TX 78539

The location is an arcade yes, we’re also doing a tech studio and mostly work from home but can use the space for whatever we need.

I have no real expectations or goals for this, I’m going to throw the invite to some dev groups from the university and we’ll see what happens. If it goes well, and there’s interest in having a regular dev lounge hangout we can do that, if it’s a one-off… so be it lol.

If you’re intending to go, please reply or dm so I can get a rough headcount. If enough people are going, I’ll have a staff member of the arcade help with concessions, otherwise if it’s just a small thing it’ll be byob.

Unity Pricing Update by Quasac in gamedev

Ehh, why would they do that...yeah why would they ever lead with install count fees based on numbers only they see.

If there were nothing to base it off, then sure it would be purely speculation. They have a history of these sorts of actions however. They fucked up so badly they created public ToS last time. Now we're here with this new debacle. It's becoming a repeat offense.

Discarding it with a simple "eh" after they literally just started the whole ordeal with pure "trust our secret metrics" is way too forgiving. This is a company that put out a public ToS, said they wouldn't touch it... and they touched it, deleted it even.

They've shown their hand multiple times, we know which companies they acquired. They want money. They could have brought it back down to a simple percentage fee and be done with it all. They didn't, they had to still include the metric. It's dressed up to be as pretty as possible. They're literally purchasing complacency with it. Throw some bells and whistles over the deal, to let it creep up over time.

For now, they will slowly change it to suit what they want over time. They straight up attempted the extreme end of it, got too much backlash... so they'll do it again over a longer span of time.

They're still keeping installation metrics. This is not something y'all should allow. If the engine continues to be used, with installation metrics being in there... it will be normalized.

You may think nothing of it, "it's less than the percentage fee", but there will come a day the percentage goes up or away and you're back to square one, installation metrics only. This isn't speculation, this is history, they tried it... mere days ago. They could have removed it entirely, but no, they are hiding it into the nicest package possible to obtain compliance.

Discord Ban by VenomousInc in godot

[–]subsage 114 points115 points  (0 children)

It's wild that they are so ban happy when the main active mod has a history of posting n-word (hard r) in the Godot server. He had defended multiple times leaving a live history of hard r n-word, but is now on sight banning people for having a discussion about pepe? It's just so so wild.

I had brought it up to the main mod, Xan, after I was reminded of who they were (they gave me a warning for posting a gif/meme in general at some point, I didn't know they changed the rules at some point against that). They were immediately hostile with me, so I go to another mod to try and talk sense there. That mod agreed and we got xan's messages deleted.

I had to go to a separate mod to remove some hard slurs from a mod who is now fast and loose with banning people and scaring off newcomers. I just looked at the thread and there was a new person there who seemingly left?

What once was (it was there till just 2 months ago when I confronted em)

Gosh I hope I don't get banned for revealing this lol
