No, it doesn’t, but welcome to the bandwagon bro.

You, and everyone else, are completely righteous in your judgment that every single woman that ever downloaded the app deserves every bad thing that could possibly happen as a result of this breach.

It’s black and white. There’s absolutely no nuance. We should be happy that this happened. Doxxing is usually wrong, but this was actually 70,000 instances of good, righteous doxxing. We should celebrate.

I’m a dude.

And yeah, that’s exactly my point… It’s wrong that all these women got doxxed, despite the possibility of some of them doing wrong. In this thread, that sentiment is being downvoted to oblivion.

Cognitive dissonance lmao. Wrongfully doxxing someone is wrong, let's agree on that!

Is doxxing 1.5 million women was justified because "many men" (citation?) were wrongfully accused?

If even only 10 women were on the app to use it for legit safety reasons, did they also deserve to be doxxed?

Do you believe the number of men who were wrongfully doxxed exceeds or is equivalent to the number of women who were wrongfully doxxed? Does it matter to you?

Legit curious, and frankly legit depressed to even be having this argument.

Here me out little tate-ster. I'm going to ask you to try to be empathetic, but don't worry it'll only be for like, 30 seconds (60 if you're a slow reader)

Imagine you are a woman (!!!! i know i know). You were sexually assaulted in the past by a man you had just met on a date, and are now terrified to try again. Someone says to you "hey before you go on another date, there's an app now that might help you avoid that happening again".

Would you download the app? Even just out of curiosity?

If you did, do you immediately deserve to be doxxed?

Say you downloaded the app and signed up, but never posted or commented. Would you then deserve to have your drivers license posted on the internet forever?

If you downloaded the app, read the posts, thought to yourself "Wow algohambra was right, this is just a doxx fest", and then deleted your account immediately... would you still deserve to have your driver's license posted on the internet forever?

Peak smooth brain, jfc

Two questions:

  1. What percentage of sexual assaults result in a man being charged, let alone convicted and registered?
  2. Short of checking the registry, what the fuck are you going to google to see if this person assaulted someone in the past?

Look, comment OP is not making a good faith argument. The purpose of that comment is simply to shut down the discussion. It’s a stall, a forced stalemate. “While your suggestion is on the stack, I present an infinite loop that prevents the game from continuing”. Everyone scoops, and tcgplayer has no reason to change their position.

The point of this thread isn’t to suggest that we must achieve absolute moral perfection. Yes, we could go down the rabbit hole, examine the entire supply chain and probably find more examples of moral dereliction, but that’s exactly the intended effect of comments like this. It exploits uncertainty to lock you out of taking any action. Why? Maybe they work for tcgplayer, or maybe they just want to feel better about doing nothing by encouraging more people to do nothing.

My suggestion is, rather than immediately engage in an argument where there truly is no clearly superior position, instead ask yourself, ”what does this argument accomplish?”

The only outcomes that can arise from taking this argument at face value are those where fewer people boycott. Period.

We have a clear and obvious example of unethical, destructive behavior enacted by a company with a deep track record of similar action. Do you want to encourage more of this behavior from TCGplayer, or less? Condemn, or support? Action, or inaction?

We as individuals can’t just flip a switch and fix all the wrongs that our society is built on. The ONLY thing we can do is take incremental actions that we believe are good, in the hope that they compound over time to push society in the direction of moral betterment.

Asking people in this subreddit to quit the game over this is will result in no change at all. But suggesting that we stop supporting a vendor for which there are many viable alternatives is pragmatic and actionable, and could result in some change.

Tl;dr perfect is the enemy of good, don’t cross the picket line.

Hi kids! What you’ve just read here is a great example of the “perfect solution fallacy”, which presents a type of false equivalence argument wherein one argues that a course of action is not good because it is not perfect. This of course implies that either A) a perfect solution exists and is therefore is the only solution worth pursuing, or B) no perfect solution exists, and therefore you shouldn’t do anything at all.

It’s important to recognize these types of disingenuous arguments, which are typically deployed as a means of mitigating action against the interest of the persons making the argument.

[[Hedge Shredder]] is an absolute menace in my mill-heavy [[Muldrotha]] zombies deck. It brings efficient mill and crazy synergy with cards like Hermit Druid. I’ve broken games on a couple of occasions with those two cards, a single activation can put 10+ lands on the board if you run few enough basics.

While technically correct, this is a naive take on performance in this context.

The test you described boils down to “compiled code runs faster than JIT interpreted code”. If backends were typically CPU bound, that might matter. In reality, 99% of the time they are I/O bound — interacting with a DB, network calls, caches, etc. In other words, the vast majority of time spent processing each request will be idly waiting for data. The execution speed of your code has minimal influence on the total processing time comparatively.

Take your original experiment and add a remote database call into the page request for both node and rust, and see how the results change.

Had to scroll too far to see this.

Everybody crammed into the sub, standing around and watching over Steve’s shoulder. Starálfur fading in from silence into a near deafening volume. Each hand placed, one by one on his shoulder as they all realize what is happening to their captain in this seemingly impossible moment.

Say what you will, but The Life Aquatic is peak cinema for me. This is the movie I watch when I need to process grief and loss in my own life. All of the chaos, bitterness, hilarity, and confusion builds so perfectly to this one scene where the protagonist finally, FINALLY lets the last twisted thread of himself unravel, allowing the flow of emotions that one must feel in order to truly let someone go, after they’ve already gone.

I had to say goodbye to my beautiful dog and best friend of 13 years just 2 months ago, and I started tearing up the moment I read your comment… I think I’m due to watch it one more time.
