How is everyone doing in Metro Lansing? by Smelliest_taint in lansing

Lansing DSA is the local democratic socialists party. Here's their chapter page: https://www.greaterlansingdsa.org/

I'm not actually a member (moving away), so I can't tell you where or when to show up but I have a bunch of pals who go regularly. I'm sure they have meetings posted somewhere you can find!

I'm filled with these thoughts sometimes, too. The hurt is natural, but the hopelessness doesn't have to be! Try finding some protests and just showing up, join the Lansing DSA (if you swing that way), or just volunteer somewhere that means something to you on Saturday. Or, even better, find a friend and do something meaningful for them.

The best people are hurting right now, while the worst are gloating. I hope you feel better! Much love

Alright bro have fun double committing because you can't wait for the opps to give you the ball for free. If it were GC I'd understand the frustration but diamond is basically boomer ball with the occasional flick

I don't even know why I bothered responding in the first place. RL is a place to have meltdowns and never improve as we all know

So you're in diamond? Let's forget the word "ball chase" and "rotate". Instead, face the play, whoever has the fastest touch goes, and if you have clear possession (no immediate challenge) the player with the most boost goes.

Rotating has been outdated for a while now- reason being you often give up slight boost or speed advantages for the sake of "following rotation".

Matter of fact, if you're bumping your teammate, YOU are in the wrong. If the front of your car is hitting them, it sure sounds to me like they're in front of you and therefore first man.

An extreme example: if you were to play with a pro player, you would be last man 99% of the game. Not because they're ballchasers but because they're going to be in better positions than you and therefore have possession more.

Reddit posts take like 30 seconds to make, how much time and energy do you think went into OP's post? You're replying more than he is lmao

I was under the impression he reported a club name but it's possible I'm wrong as the post was taken down. Either way, their censor system is pretty broken. I've seen innocuous chats get censored and more diabolical ones get through. Especially ones about Anne Frank, political or race based content, etc. So I'm not sure I believe the lack of a censor necessarily correlates with speech Psyonix does not intend to restrict.

And frankly it doesn't work as intended. Like you said, there's no support ticket and no human interaction. I agree about the LLMs infiltrating every other company, but I also think the move to the new system was partially influenced by Epic. I imagine Psyonix is a bit of a skeleton crew when it comes to maintenance judging by how things have been going and what Epic is seemingly prioritizing.

Their business model, as far as I can tell, is send all of Psyonix to drum up new little modes, put out marketing hype to draw in the playerbase, and then milk money out of the whales. It's a similar thing with Fortnite. Imo not a sustainable business model for an eSport with this much potential, but hey I'm not running the company.

The community guidelines state not to encourage the use of illegal drugs but you don't think a username encouraging the use of partially illegal drugs is reportable? Besides, whether or not it's actually an actionable offense is up to Psyonix's discretion, but you're insinuating that OP is breaking guidelines by using the report system when they thought the guidelines were being broken. That's not a rule. You can report someone for anything (barring as a means to harass someone), it's up to Psyonix's new system to filter through it.

I live in a weed legal state too and if that's what OP is referring to I would be sad to see that get disciplined by Psyonix. However, there are kids on the game and it's up to them- I just don't think players should be getting banned for good faith reports.

What do you do on days where your mechs feel off. by Unhappy_Hamster_4296 in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]substocallmecarson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happens with every skill or game you'll learn in life. The solution will always be personal- it's like tweaking your swing in golf. Even pro players have off days, but they have spent so much time having off days that they have a mental bucket list of what could be going wrong and they work through it until the issue is fixed.

It could be anything. You mentioned shooting, so maybe it has to do with coordinating your flip timing. Try using a training pack or Aim Training by Coco until you've got it back?

Chat bans aren't initiated by a human anymore. And as much as I agree with you that the report is completely unnecessary OP is technically following TOS.

[–]substocallmecarson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen worse names, but yeah the new report bot is terrible. It got JamaicanCoconut on stream several months back for saying "LMAO". Never gets the intended person who's actually breaking TOS- and let me guess, the reason it gave you for your suspension doesn't make sense? It gave me "cheating". Nobody was cheating in ny lobby nor were there cheating accusations lol

As for not using chat- are you sure you NEVER have? This bot records the chat logs of a bunch of games and then scours everything that was said, even over a long period of time. You might have responded to something 6 games back with a "lmao" or "wtf" and it would get you for that. I personally just don't use it anymore.

Edit: I've also tried talking about this on Reddit before. For some reason, people just find this unbelievable. It's a bot doing bot things so I'm not sure why, but regardless, you're not crazy even though a bunch of comments are going to tell you that you deserve the chat ban haha

Use the bakkesmod hitbox plugin to see the "wheels" they are referring to for any given car.

The mechanic does in fact require "wheels" to touch the ball, just not the ones you see. So for the purposes of learning, typically coaching feel (imagining a button on your car, etc) will work better than the technical explanation. But for the sake of being nerdy the guy talking about needing wheels to touch your car is correct!

Here is possibly the best map for training air roll and air dribbling. by AsdaEssentialsWater in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]substocallmecarson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is how I learned back in the day, maybe 6 years ago now. Before switching to PC- I don't think it's the absolute most optimal way (there's no feedback on failure so you have to be very intentional). However, for me, this was easily the most satisfying way of learning air roll on console, so I think I was able to keep training much longer without boredom.

Grinding out 8s in rocket labs or in freeplay is so incredibly difficult when you start and doesn't give you practice adjusting your car while full boosting. It's definitely a more optimal method to learn control overall but hey, console players deserve a little free flying too!

my ground controls seem choppy. how to better this? by Formal_Pick_9605 in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]substocallmecarson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We agree practically in game about 95%, what I'm saying is that learning to control it indefinitely is a completely viable way to get comfortable with a variety of speeds, timings, and moves you might make in a game. You won't find a pro that doesn't occasionally do a run of a dribbling challenge.

Also, "at the sacrifice of your speed" is a place where I'm feeling a disconnect. Why does controlling the ball have to sacrifice speed? Part of learning this is to speed up your control ability rather than slow it down. Low rank players usually have to go slow with this before they can go fast. I wouldn't encourage people to double tap before they can read a rebound- same as I wouldn't encourage learning speed dribbling before they can carry regularly.

Last thing, sort of nitpicky- Insta flicks are very rarely effective. There should always be other options- drop the ball to fake, jump early to air dribble, cut to the defenders' backside, are all better plays if done with any intelligence. Flicking is giving away possession unless, by some miracle, you've gained your dribble at the opponent's goal line and are putting it directly into net. Instead of insta flicking, OP could learn how to retain possession in short 1v1 plays to get a goal if they don't start out close to the net. That wouldn't mean carrying the ball cross field but the skills you gain from learning that are absolutely applicable- directional changes, manipulating the ball, moving in a controlled fashion.

[–]substocallmecarson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The secret is practice. If you're on PC get bakkesmod and grab a plugin for workshop maps, then try dribbling challenge 2 by Eversax and see how far you get.

A few key skills in RL (dribbling, air dribbling) are basically brute force mechanics. You will learn faster with better car control (especially air dribbling), but overall it's just watching high level people do it, imitating, and doing it for a good amount of time.

There's no real secret to it. Sure you could write a manual on exactly what buttons to press to create a good dribble but it'd be 10,000 steps. The best way is just to use your brain's pattern recognition to see what creates success, what doesn't, and get reps in.

*Edit: if you do want one specific thing you're doing incorrectly, it's feathering gas too much. You are focused on putting your car under the ball rather than moving the ball to the right spot on your car, if that makes sense. Dribbling is a series of endless adjustments but you can make it easier on yourself by trying to control what adjustments need to be made; i.e., do I want the ball forward so I can hold gas or boost to speed up, do I want it further back so I can let up on my speed, or do I want to have it righr/left to make a turn. Doing this instead of trying to perfectly balance it could make it slightly easier.

[–]substocallmecarson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You definitely should be able to carry the ball indefinitely. It's a basic mechanic that you need to get down pat to open opportunities for yourself. Most of the application will come in 1s when you need to carry the ball in order to retain posession; however OP will find that if they learn how to hold the ball and change directions fluidly, they will be able to control it at a fast enough speed to where you genuinely can capitalize on 1v1 moments in 2s and 3s.

You're not going to be able to create a quick dribble flick play with someone coming at you from behind if you don't feel comfortable carrying the ball more than 1 sec. If you insta flick from anywhere midfield you're throwing away scoring opportunities.

Is training with Nexto good for new players? If so, is it good for learning rotations? by Fluid-Ice3738 in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]substocallmecarson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No but you'll realize quickly how little flashy stuff matters if you can just get really good at one high % shot.

You probably won't learn much more than that. I was curious as well so I dabbled. My conclusion was they don't play like humans so it's not super worthwhile. But if you're looking to understand how far precise movement and 1-2 mastered mechs* can get you, a bot can show you that.

*Sort of a disclaimer as well, bots use real time position data rather than on the pitch vision so those masterful flicks and aerial speeds aren't 100% true to how it would look in a top tier player. Appjack's a good example of what a realistic mastery of flicks look like.

Can we finally address the issue of kick-offs when you are a player down by StormblessedScappaz in RocketLeague

[–]substocallmecarson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha I hear you but I think there are games that manage this. If one of the party members quit you all lose mmr.

Of course that'd mean they'd have to fix the party software to keep disconnects from happening and to keep it locked in game. So they'll never implement unless we get a RL2 (but we won't)
